Position Purpose:

The Solutions Architect plays a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining the technology solutions architecture, including the target infrastructure architecture, solution delivery, solution transition, and technical disaster recovery for the Commonwealth. This position is integral to setting strategic direction, driving solutions architecture, and coordinating disaster recovery planning using strategic matrixed technical teams. The Solutions Architect will work closely with key stakeholders to develop and sustain a comprehensive view of the Commonwealth’s technical capabilities, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and business needs.

Description of Duties:

Team Leadership:
Build, develop, and direct a team of matrixed Solution Architects and administrative staff.

Provide thought leadership on emerging technology standards in disaster recovery and resilience, enterprise architecture models, cloud services, and various technical disciplines (e.g., Software-Defined Data Center, Virtualization, Network, Storage, Mobile, and Legacy platforms).

Collaboration:
Collaborate with OA/OIT Executive Leadership, Delivery Center leadership, agency business teams, and supplier marketing/technical teams.

Participate in the alignment of Enterprise Architecture models, frameworks, and associated tools and artifacts.

Strategic Development:
Develop and maintain the enterprise Technical Reference Model/Infrastructure Reference Model.

Develop and maintain technical disaster recovery architecture, plans, procedures, and governance.

Create visual aids to illustrate technologies and architectures.

Gather and articulate business and technical requirements.

Solution Design and Delivery:
Provide detailed descriptions of architecture components, services, and interfaces for proposed solutions.

Assist in maintaining the enterprise services portfolio and planning end-of-life application/platform deprecation.
Communicate strategies for migrating from legacy systems to modern, enterprise-standard platforms.

Governance and Standards:
Create and define enterprise standards and drive agency adoption.

Operate the Enterprise Architecture Review Committee.

Assist in defining and enhancing IT Service Management (ITSM) capabilities.

Continuous Improvement:
Assess industry solutions, market feedback, and technology trends to identify enhancement opportunities.

Develop service design packages reviewed and approved by Executive Leadership.

Decision Making:
Describe the types of decisions made by the incumbent of this position and the types of decisions referred to others. Identify the problems or issues that can be resolved at the level of this position, versus those that must be referred to the supervisor. Example: In response to a customer inquiry, this work involves researching the status of an activity and preparing a formal response for the supervisor’s signature.

Advise on IT and management strategies, including staff planning, budget proposals, solution architecture, and implementation. Supervise the evaluation, recommendation, acquisition, and implementation of technology-based solutions.

Requirements Profile: Identify any specific experience or requirements, such as a licensure, registration, or certification, which may be necessary to perform the functions of the position. Experience:
