Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. This position assists the Corrections Employment Vocational Coordinator (CEVC) in the management of employment and skill development experiences and provides employment-related counseling to inmates in the Department of Corrections (DOC) State Correctional Institution (SCI) at SCI Albion. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. This position completes and/or assists a higher-level CEVC with the following duties in support of the administration of the Inmate Employment Program: 20% Assists with the coordination and recommendation of work assignments and vocational/technical training for inmates. Conducts program orientation for new inmates to the facility. Performs intake interviews with inmates to collect employment histories and interests. Reviews case information and psychological, medical, educational, and other institutional personnel reports to determine appropriateness of job placement plans. Makes recommendations for the proposal of new jobs, job descriptions, and corresponding pay scales. Assists with providing additional information to assist inmates with return to community. 20% Provides training to inmate workers’ supervisors in the use of inmate payroll and compensation systems, ensuring compliance with agency standards and regulations. Audit inmates’ time and attendance records. Receives and responds to inmate requests related to payroll problems and resolution. 20% Provides employment-related counseling to inmates to aid in job adjustment challenges, to answer questions, and to facilitate selection of vocational/technical training and job skill development opportunities. Helps inmates obtain required documents for work assignments as well as re-entry into the community. 20% Documents and reports on inmate population, housing, employment and work assignments, training progress, and other data for treatment plans: assists the CEVA in collecting and maintain data specific to reentry initiatives such as Non-Driver’s License, Driver’s License, Birth Certificate, duplicate Social Security card, Compass applications, etc. 15% Maintains consistent communication with inmate workers’ supervisors. Advises and trains institution staff to facilitate problem-solving, tracking, and changes for work assignments. Serves as a consultant for re-entry programs and on committees. 5% Performs other related duties as required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Exercise therapeutic care, custody, and control over inmates 2. Work overtime in compliance with provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement 9. Travel as required 10. Be mobile over all types of physical surfaces and levels 11. Visually observe inmates’ activities 12. Hear and identify sounds (voices, whistle, buzzer, lock release, scuffling, sudden quiet) |

The duties performed by the CEVA adhere to DOC policy and local procedures, and regularly assigned duties are performed with a high level of independence with general supervision by the CEVC. For example, the CEVA routinely makes decisions related to multiple aspects of inmate compensation. The CEVA provides status updates and reports to the CEVC for review, conferences with, and sometimes is directly observed by the CEVC. |
