Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance, operation, and protection of the Loyalsock State Forest.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

To perform a variety of tasks, as listed below, necessary to maintain and improve, trails, roads, buildings and related facilities using tools, materials, and equipment common to the trade.

ROADS AND TRAIL MAINTENANCE:
1. Maintain, repair and construct State Forest roads, bridges and culverts as required, including ditch/culvert cleaning, headwall/tailwall construction, clearing roadside trees/vegetation, stone raking, access gate installation/removal/painting/maintenance, road sign installation/removal, bridge cleaning/maintenance, equipment cleaning, as directed.
2. Maintain trails and boundary lines within the forest district including constructing, repairing, clearing trees/vegetation, and blazing.
3. Operate snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles, and a tractor with stone rake, mower or leaf blower as required to complete tasks.

BUILDING AND FACILITY MAINTENANCE:
1. Assist in maintaining District facilities and landscapes including cleaning, mowing, trimming, mulching, painting, garbage collection, recyclingsnow removal, and general repairs using hand tools, power equipment and chemicals, as directed.
2. Assist in maintaining directional and informational signage through staining, painting, routing, repairing, and installing signs.
3. Assist in cleaning, sanitizing and restocking comfort stations with supplies.
4. Assist in maintaining woven-wire, high-tensile steel, and low-tensile ribbon electric deer exclosure fences and associated electrifying equipment through inspecting on foot/all-terrain vehicle/snowmobile, clearing fallen trees/vegetation/debris from fence, clearing fence inspection access roads/trails, and repairing damaged sections of fence/gates/equipment on a regular established schedule.
5. Perform light electrical maintenance such as replacing electrical switches or lighting fixtures.
6. Perform light plumbing maintenance such as unblocking drains.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE:
1. Perform regular preventative maintenance, pre and post inspection, cleaning, and minor repairs on hand tools, power tools, motorized equipment and vehicles as directed.
2. Maintain a written record of equipment use and maintenance.
3. Perform general equipment maintenance such as cleaning filters, replacing seals/gaskets, and oiling/greasing/sharpening tools and equipment.

FOREST FIRE PROTECTION:
1. Assist with District Fire Suppression efforts, using hand tools, power tools, and power water pumps in extinguishing wildfires under the direction of a supervisor. Other duties to include those for which you are Task Book qualified to perform.
2. Assist with the District’s or other agencies’ prescribed fire program, including pre-work, assisting at the burn, and mop-up. Other duties to include those for which you are Task Book qualified to perform.
3. Repair and maintain fire equipment as required.
4. Attend fire/emergency related training programs as required.

OTHER RELATED WORK:
1. Assist with Search and Rescue Operations and other similar emergency operations as directed.
2. Apply herbicides to forest vegetation under the supervision of certified applicator.
3. Assist with removal of deer from within deer exclosure fences.
4. Post and maintain educational, directional, and informational signage pertaining to deer exclosure fences.
5. Abide by District, Departmental, Bureau and Commonwealth safety policies.
6. Attend training and District staff meetings as directed.
7. Perform other related job duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions (continued):
11. Fight wildland fires.
12. Work independently or with a crew.

Essential Functions
