Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Provides specialized vehicle and equipment repair services to ensure that all department vehicles and maintenance equipment body parts and glass are repaired and refinished in a manner that protects and extends their useful life.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Repairs rusted or damaged auto equipment.

Utilizes techniques such as welding, brazing, soldering, applying epoxy or fiberglass.

Assesses the need to repair or replace parts of the vehicle such as doors and fenders and does so either through partial or total replacement.

Replaces broken windshield and side or rear glass.

Replaces or repairs torn, creased, scratched or otherwise damaged seats, flooring and other internal areas of the vehicle.

Mixes paints to match existing colors. Using a spray gun, applies paint to equipment. Maintains and cleans related tools.

Recommends the ordering of specialized parts, communicates with supervisors, fellow workers, and storeroom personnel to accomplish assigned tasks. Accurately documents work done, equipment serviced, time expended, and parts used on a daily time sheet.

Maintains assigned work area in clean, safe condition using proper safety procedures and protective equipment. Is aware of work area hazards and initiates proactive accident and injury avoidance measures. Reports all personal injuries immediately and gets proper treatment to minimize risk of further injury.

Follows proper attendance and call off procedures. Schedules non-emergency absences in advance; observes start/stop times, breaks, and mealtimes; works efficiently and effectively alone and with others; is available for overtime emergency responses; and minimizes nonproductive and down time for self and crew.
Performs related job duties as assigned.

Recognizing that everyone is involved in the District’s and County’s actions to demonstrate sound environmental practices, each employee fulfills the maintenance unit business plan objectives related to the Strategic Environmental Management Program (S.E.M.P.). Also, supports the efforts of managers, supervisors, and other employees to meet these objectives. Attends environmental training designated for this Working Title.

Safety:

3. Immediately report to your supervisor any incident, unsafe practice, or near miss.

4. When in an enclosed environment (office buildings, confined spaces, flagger stations, equipment pinch points, etc.), know your evacuation process and escape route, your communication protocols, and appropriately react in the event of an incident.

5. Evaluate the contractor’s operations: Immediately stop any unsafe actions. Engage in an ongoing safety dialogue with the contractor’s leadership.

6. Promote a CULTURE that emphasizes SAFETY as a core value: Immediately stop any unsafe actions. Incorporate safety into all discussions, deliberations, and decisions. Continuously communicate the safety direction. Inspire employees to be a MODEL for safety. Encourage and support safety initiatives and programs by participating and involving your staff. Recognize safety daily. Acknowledge EXTRAORDINARY achievements. Learn and improve through After Action Reviews (AARs). Enforce accountability.

Succession Planning:
Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees.

Department Green Plan Policy:
Commit to following the Department’s Green Plan Policy (Pub 712) and the associated principles. Failure to comply with Department Green Plan Policy shall be documented in employee’s performance review.

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA):
Unless directed otherwise by your supervisor or manager, comply with stated work hours for the 7.5/8.0 hour day.
