Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. The incumbent must be certified on two pieces of equipment at the TEOB level (in addition to (HT) truck and (LD) loader and other than snow removal equipment); or must be certified on all pieces of equipment at this level assigned to the employee's work organization, whichever option is less. As a member of the District Office paint crew, operators will perform a variety of manual laboring duties as well as operating equipment used for line painting, construction and maintenance work. Operates either a right or left pavement line spray paint gun, assuring proper application and placement of single or dual lines. Checks pressure gauges and other operational indicators including paint volume and temperature for proper machine function. Operates the vehicle housing and mounted spray paint apparatus utilizing speed and lane centering to assure clear and properly spaced pavement markings of proper thickness. Capable of operating a supply truck over four tons stripped weight to furnish glass beads, cold plastics, paints and other materials used in the large traffic line painting machine operation. Applies routine preventive maintenance procedures to specific working parts of line painting apparatus as well as minor vehicle maintenance duties such as oiling and greasing. Makes minor repairs to the line painting equipment. Reports information to the paint foreman: Gallons of paint and beads consumed as well as current readings of foot counters to comply with Department requirements. This position required a commercial driver's license (CDL) and is therefore subject to Drug and Alcohol Testing in accordance with Federal regulations. Recognizes the need for environmental practices and applies them in their daily activities. Attends environmental training designated for their position. Supports the efforts of other employees to meet these objectives. During the winter maintenance season incumbent may be assigned to a county maintenance organization assist with snow removal operations. Performs other related duties as required. Safety: 1. Evaluate contractor operations: •Immediately stop unsafe actions •Engage in ongoing safety dialogue with the contractor’s leadership 6. Promote a CULTURE that emphasizes SAFETY as a core value: •Immediately stop any unsafe actions. •Incorporate safety into all discussions, deliberations, and decisions. •Continuously communicate the safety direction. •Inspire employees to be a MODEL for safety. •Encourage and support safety initiatives and programs by participating and involving staff. •Recognize safety daily. •Acknowledge EXTRAORDINARY achievements. •Learn and improve through After Action Reviews (AAR’s) •Enforce accountability. Succession Planning: Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees. Department Green Plan Policy: As part of PennDOT’s MS4 obligations including NPDES Permit compliance and stockpile good housekeeping, all Construction Inspection Employee, Manager & Supervisor and Maintenance Employee, Manager & Supervisor PD’s must include the following statement: Commit to following the Departments Green Plan Policy (Pub 712) and the associated principals. Failure to comply with Department Green Plan Policy shall be documented in employee’s performance review. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Unless directed otherwise by your supervisor or manager, comply with stated work hours for the 7.5/8.0 hour day. |

All positions require an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks (HT) and loaders (LD), and two additional pieces of construction and maintenance equipment at the time of application and continuously maintained while in this job. 2. In addition, all employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of two additional pieces of construction equipment within the probationary period to meet the six pieces required to maintain TEOB status. 3. All positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License or equivalent with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed. Certain positions may require that E or O restriction are removed. 4. Certain positions in this job require employees to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission. 5. All employees must obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job. 6. Certain positions or equipment certifications may require an employee to obtain a Valid Pennsylvania Class A Commercial Driver’s License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed. 7. Certain positions or equipment certifications may require an employee to obtain an active Hazardous Materials Endorsement (H). 8. Based on hire date, positions may require possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations. 9. Certain positions may require employees to obtain active certifications issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of additional pieces of construction and maintenance equipment as operations dictate.
