Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. The incumbent in this position is responsible for a variety of tasks including but not necessarily limited to logging, receiving, storing, transferring and tracking of evidence. The incumbent is also responsible for scientific tasks in support of laboratory analysis including but not limited to changing gas cylinders, basic instrument maintenance, instrument performance checks, reagent preparation and reagent checks. Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures as outlined in the PSP Regulations and the Bureau of Forensic Services Per-Capita and Program Manuals. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 35% Prepares analytical reagents, standard solutions, clean glassware, and laboratory equipment for the Forensic Scientists' daily operations. Performs quality assurance tests on the solutions and reagents to ensure proper functioning. 20% Performs backup duties in the receipt, transfer, storage, and return of physical evidence that is submitted to the Laboratory for analysis. Personally contacts and assists, on occasion, submitting agencies with the timely and appropriate disposition of evidence that has been processed by the Laboratory. Assists with answering in-coming phone calls and directing the caller to the appropriate person when necessary. 10% Calibrates, cleans, and maintains scientific instruments/equipment used for casework analysis. 10% Provides technical assistance to Forensic Scientists in the performance of bench analysis. 5% Maintains an adequate inventory of expendable laboratory and office supplies by ordering and restocking items that are essential to the routine function of the Laboratory. 5% Serves as Laboratory inventory control officer. 5% Maintains SDS (Safety Data Sheet) file, current technical periodicals, and general library reference materials. 5% Prepares laboratory case records and documentation for archives. 5% Performs other related duties as required, to maintain the efficient operation of the laboratory including those found in the Bureau of Forensic Services' Continuity of Operation Plan (COOP) when the Department’s COOP Plan is activated. Responds to the designated alternate or secondary location when directed in response to a catastrophic incident. |
