Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Prepare Planned Courses of study and individual lesson plans for teaching Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. Monitor inmate behavior and establish classroom rules and procedures to maintain effective learning environment. Adapt activities, materials, and other educational materials to meet the needs of students on a competency basis. Teach processes, methods, and practices to students through hand-on competency based activities and employ other teaching techniques that are applicable to the immediate learning task and enhances the learning activity. Teach safety precautions common to a multidimensional program such as Air Conditioning and Refrigeration along with commonly observed shop safety procedures and practices. Assess learning progress by oral, written, practical and performance tests. Maintain attendance and performance records of student and counsel students on their progress status. Identify and order classroom supplies, materials, and equipment in accordance with prescribed procedures. Inventory and comply with tool control policies and procedures. Discipline disruptive students and notify the principal of any such action. Attend staff meetings, conferences, workshops, and serve on committees in the area of expertise as required. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing inmates’ life and conduct, including care, custody, and control. Identify and arrange for counterparts in area of expertise from Labor and Industry to assess the program and offer shop upgrading recommendations. Utilize those recommendations to recommend to the principal the needed modernization equipment and materials for possible purchase. Perform other related duties as required/assigned by the principal or upper management. Maintain accurate and easily retrievable records and utilize them to write inmates’ education/vocational reports. Provide for the therapeutic care, custody and control of inmates. Essential Functions: 1. Exercise therapeutic care, custody, and control over inmates 2. Teach inmates theory and job skills relevant to Building/Construction Trades Occupations 3. Maintain an active Vocational Instruction 1 or 2 certification issued by the PA Department of Education in accordance with assigned work 4. Reach, bend, stoop, pull, push, kneel, lift, climb, and grasp 5. Spend prolonged periods of time standing or walking 6. Maintain regular and reliable attendance 7. Operate basic office equipment 8. Effectively communicate verbally and in writing 9. Establish and maintain effective working relationships 10. Visually observe inmates’ activities 11. Attend and participate in all mandatory training and/or testing 12. Be mobile over all types of physical surfaces and levels 13. Hear and identify sounds (voices, whistle, buzzer, lock release, scuffling, sudden quiet) 14. Work overtime in compliance with provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement 15. Travel as required |
