Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Prepare interior and exterior walls, ceilings and trim for painting. Mix paint. Perform all interior and exterior painting (walls, floors, ceilings, trim, doors, window frames, etc.). Maintain and repair sinks, faucets, urinals, water heaters, pumps, valves, drains, commodes, etc. Cut, install and solder copper pipe and fittings; cut, thread and install black iron and galvanized pipe and fittings; and cut and install plastic pipe and fittings. Repair and replace flush controls. Unclog sewage drain lines using hand or mechanical drain cleaning equipment. Perform general carpentry work related to alterations, repairs, or maintenance of assigned facilities. Work may involve standard office requests such as painting, drywall patching, carpet tile replacement, floor tile repair, and other basic carpentry tasks. Install and replace electric circuits, circuit panels, wall plugs and lighting fixtures. Install or move receptacles and switches. Change light bulbs and ballasts. Monitor and perform maintenance on fire alarm, fire suppression and security systems and request service and inspections when necessary. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on electrical and plumbing systems. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical systems and plumbing systems as needed to ensure proper and efficient operations. Perform electrical wiring/rewiring for new and old machinery and equipment and HVAC systems. Install and replace electrical components such as switches and receptacles. Locate and correct power failures and short circuits. Replace 110/220 volt circuit breakers, receptacles, and single or 3-way switches as required. Troubleshoot and repair/replace electrical controls. Determine electrical loads on equipment and make material lists to install circuits. Repair and service ventilation, refrigeration, air conditioning and heating systems. Correct any problems with systems when necessary. Monitor building automatic temperature control (ATC) and other automated systems. Monitor roofs for wear and needed replacements. Repair leaks in all types of roofs. Operate and maintain electrical, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, HVAC, painting, grounds keeping and custodial tools and equipment. Perform cleaning duties as needed such as move furniture; dust furniture and other fixtures; wash and wax floors; clean windows, walls, ceilings and latrines; empty trash, etc. Replace lavatory supplies. Prepare material lists of assigned jobs; maintain records of work performed and material utilized. Ensure all unused material is returned to warehouse stock. Remove snow, ice, and debris from all exterior surfaces of facility property. Mow grass and maintain landscaping. Coordinate with Bureau of Facility Support staff or Facilities Operations Administrators on use of contractors or other support crews. Request and maintain housekeeping supplies, monitor heating fuel levels and request refill, and maintain adequate supply of facility maintenance items. Maintain favorable National Crime Information Center (NCIC) screening. Perform work in accordance with the DMVA general safety rules and safety rules for this position. Immediately report all workplace injuries or incidents to the supervisor; and/or immediately correct any safety hazards in the work area or report same to supervisor. Maintain knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, in the performance of assigned duties.
