Position Purpose:

This is entry level professional work involving the implementation of environmental education, environmental interpretation, recreation, information services and public relations at Hickory Run State Park Complex.

The employee in this class performs a variety of assignments in the development, coordination and implementation of the environmental education, interpretive, recreation and public relations services at Hickory Run, Lehigh Gorge, and Nescopeck State Parks.

In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 this position is required to complete Child Abuse, Criminal and Federal Criminal History Checks around the time of hire and thereafter every 5 years.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Work includes, but is not limited to: planning, writing lesson plans, scheduling activities, development, implementation, presentation and evaluation of environmental education, interpretation, recreation and special event programs all year round. Work involves planning, preparing and presenting a wide variety of audiovisual presentations to many audiences; in-person and remotely. Coordinates with partners including other parks, agencies, schools, civic and public organizations and individuals and may act as a liaison between these groups and the park. Assists schools in implementing environmental education programs, professional development workshops and curriculum development. Work includes implementation and facilitation of statewide environmental education, interpretive, recreation and public relation programs. Work involves coordinating the DCNR Conservation Volunteer program within the Hickory Run State Park Complex. Operates and maintains visitor center and resource library. Maintains natural, historical, cultural, archaeological collections in good, organized, and presentable condition using cultural techniques. Work includes the preparation of correspondence, program schedules, news articles and marketing materials. Works outdoor in a variety of weather conditions. Assists with resource management projects and studies. Researches and develops educational publications and exhibits. Maintains records, files and prepares of reports. Maintains and coordinates use of environmental learning field equipment, oversees use of equipment, maintains and makes recommendations for repair, servicing, replacement and purchase of equipment.

This is not a supervisory position. Duties are assigned verbally and in writing. Employee is responsible for setting up his/her own interpretive/educational programs. Work is reviewed periodically by Supervisor and Regional Environmental Education Coordinator.
