Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. The Security Officer’s responsibility is protecting life and property, and enforcing Commonwealth, DHS and Facility rules and regulations relating to hospital operations. This is done through mobile and walking patrol and monitoring of security systems and cameras on the facility. They preserves law & order, prevent and detect crime, investigates complaints and incidents or violations of policies, laws, rules and regulations. The SO I participates in investigations of all violations of hospital and commonwealth rules, regulations and laws. They respond to all emergencies on the facility and aids to stabilize or correct the emergency. The SO I performs security checks of all buildings to ensure all doors and windows are secure and that no unauthorized personnel are located on hospital property. Conducts searches for missing or AWOL patients in accordance with search policy and performs safety patrols of the facility to detect fire or safety hazards which may endanger persons or property. |

Example: In response to a customer inquiry, this work involves researching the status of an activity and preparing a formal response for the supervisor’s signature. The Security Officer I receives general instruction from the SO II. Work is assigned by written, verbal instructions as well as departmental goals, departmental policies and standard operating procedures. The SO I will resolve problems encountered in the daily operations of the facility pertaining to Security and Safety issues and emergencies encountered. During emergency operations, as senior officer on duty he will direct operations to resolve conditions that effect the safety and security of patients, personnell and materials on the hospital grounds. |
