Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This position is located at Fort Indiantown Gap. The employee diagnoses, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains approximately 150 diesel and natural gas-powered electric generators and related equipment including manual and automatic transfer switches. The employee will also maintain emergency light plants and all other associated equipment. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Diagnose, repair, and maintain all generator components, including engines, alternators, fuel systems, voltage regulators, cooling and exhaust systems, lubrication systems, battery chargers, control panels, and transfer switches. Utilize diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot and resolve generator failure issues including mechanical faults and electronic problems such as control panels, computer control units, circuitry, and sensors. Repair, replace, and calibrate electronic controls and sensors. Test diesel and natural gas engines to diagnose cause of defective operations or mechanical failure. Troubleshoot engine fuel system problems and repair and replace faulty fuel systems and related components, including the repair and replacement of diesel fuel injectors and pumps. Modify generator systems, including installing pre-heaters, battery chargers, fuel/injection systems, and other related parts. Document modifications to generator systems. Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and maintain transfer switches. Install standby generators and transfer switches in collaboration with other trades employees. Coordinate with manufacturer representatives to commission and test new generators. Create, implement, and maintain a preventive maintenance program to include all generators and light plants. Place existing equipment on a regular service schedule and add new equipment to the service schedule. Inspect generators for safety and compliance with regulations. Perform regular operational system checks and maintain records of run-time. Perform and log regular preventive maintenance, including load-bank testing, checking for leaks and worn parts, taking oil samples, ordering and installing replacement parts, making adjustments and calibrations, and inspecting the operation of equipment. Maintain inventory of emergency light plants and portable generators and perform regular operational checks and preventive maintenance. Setup equipment where needed. Work with various departments at Fort Indiantown Gap, including environmental and electrical, to meet all needs relative to generators and light plants. Prepare and maintain records of repairs, maintenance, parts ordered, and parts used. Prepare and share reports as applicable using standard office computer programs. Transport equipment, tools, and fluids to and from worksites. Operate and maintain equipment, tools, and safety devices which are designed to lift, move, transport, repair, inspect, measure, and protect. Utilize personal protective equipment and follow safety procedures, including lockout-tagout. Maintain a favorable National Crime Information Center (NCIC) screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap. Our goals will be achieved by continuing our focus on injury reduction through education and accountability. Perform work in accordance with the DMVA general safety rules and safety rules for this position. Immediately report all workplace injuries or incidents to the supervisor; and/or immediately correct any safety hazards in the work area and report same to the supervisor. Perform other related duties as required. |
