Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. The Registered PRN Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care and treatment services. The Registered PRN Nurse assesses the patients’ physical, psychosocial and/or mental health status. The Registered PRN Nurse performs ongoing assessment of patient and patient care needs; utilizes nursing diagnosis and treatment in developing and implementing CITP; complies with documentation policy and CITP guidelines; prescribes, coordinates, and delegates nursing care; collaborates with other facility disciplines; provides nursing expertise to interdisciplinary treatment team; assesses, records, reports, and evaluates vital signs, symptoms, and reactions or responses to medication and treatment; participates in staff development programs; provides ongoing orientation/education and on-the-job training to non-professional nursing personnel; utilizes least restrictive measures, follows hospital/nursing policy in the care and documentation of patients in restraint/special observation; adheres to infection control/HIV policies and procedures; utilizes crisis management techniques; accurately complies with medication policy and completion of physician’s orders; applies knowledge of Hospital/Nursing policies and procedures; initiates, conducts and documents nursing process groups; maintains awareness of ward conditions, therapeutic milieu, and patient activities; acts as patient advocate; participates in Nursing PI and Hospital QA activities; utilizes therapeutic communication; provides knowledgeable daily communication; participates in nursing and facility committees/activities; provides health promotion and maintenance through teaching, guidance, and counseling; assigns and directs the work of professional personnel and supervises assigned non-professional staff; applies professional and psychiatric nursing concepts, techniques, and procedures in patient care; interacts with others in a cooperative manner to develop effective working relationships; prepares and submits reports as required; develops, recommends and directs changes in the administration of Nursing care and treatment methods and plans; provides guidance to paraprofessional staff in implementing, receiving and modifying the patient’s plan of care; performs other related duties as requested. Demonstrates competencies in application of techniques and maintains certification in Advanced Mandt Training. Depending on staffing needs, may be required to work overtime. Carries out treatment programs and provides/coordinates physical/psychiatric nursing care services to patients in compliance with hospital policies and nursing standard practice/care. Formulates specific goals and interventions in accordance with prescribed treatment as documented in the patients individualized treatment plan. Conducts nursing groups and provides patient education to promote independent functioning. Administers prescribed medications and treatments per policy and procedures; monitors the effects through behavior changes, signs and symptoms, vital signs and interpretation of laboratory findings. Transcribes physician’s orders accurately and communicates changes as per established procedures. Completes written and oral reports and documents in a timely and proficient manner. Performs CPR, Heimlich maneuver, crisis management techniques, emergency evacuations and other health and safety procedures. Demonstrate competencies in application of techniques and maintains certification in Advanced Mandt Training. Follows safety and infection control measures to ensure a safe, clean, therapeutic environment and milieu for patients and staff. Establishes and maintains a therapeutic approach and relationship with patients. Functions as a lead worker/role model directing the work of staff to provide optimal nursing care/treatment. Acts as a patient advocate respecting confidentiality rights. Maintains effective, cooperative working relationships with staff, other disciplines, departments, visitors and public. Positions patients and/or assists in lifting non-ambulatory patients as required using proper body mechanics and/or assistive devices. Attends nursing services committees/hospital activities as assigned. Provides orientation of new nursing employees in the direct care areas. Demonstrates competency in job knowledge performance and the care of equipment on the ward. Directs/supervises staff in the work area, providing instructions, counseling and guidance as necessary in collaboration with supervisor. |
