Position Purpose:

The role of a Maintenance Repairman is pivotal in ensuring that facilities and equipment are kept in optimal working condition. This position encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities, from performing routine maintenance tasks to addressing urgent repair needs and setting up and maintaining items requested for show events; and fabrication or building of items as needed. As an important player in the operational efficiency of the Farm Show Complex, a Maintenance Repairman is expected to be knowledgeable in various trades, pay attention to detail, and have a proactive approach to problem-solving. This position is to ensure safe and efficient operation during year-round vendor-controlled events and routine required facility maintenance.

Description of Duties:

This position performs skilled maintenance, repair, fabrication, and preventive maintenance work throughout an event facility.

The Maintenance Repairman is responsible for maintaining the facility, equipment, vehicles, fixtures, and building systems in safe, reliable, and operational condition.
The position supports daily facility operations as well as event setups, events, and teardowns.

The position requires a broad range of mechanical, carpentry, mason, plumbing, welding, fabrication, and repair skills and the ability to respond to a variety of maintenance needs in a large, active event facility.

Building Maintenance and Carpentry
•Perform general building maintenance and repairs.

•Perform carpentry repairs, including doors, frames, walls, floors, ceilings, cabinets, fixtures, and other building components.

•Install, repair, replace, and modify building materials and fixtures.

•Repair and maintain flooring, walls, doors, locks, hardware, and other facility components.

•Assist with event-related building setups, changes, and repairs.

•Identify maintenance problems and determine appropriate repair methods.
Plumbing

•Perform routine plumbing repairs and maintenance.

•Repair leaking faucets, toilets, drains, valves, pipes, and fixtures.

•Clear and maintain drains and address plumbing-related issues throughout the facility.
•Assist with installation, modification, and repair of plumbing systems and components.

Mason Repairs
•Repairs, constructs, and maintains, including preparing materials, mixing mortar, setting up work areas, preparing surfaces, removing damaged masonry, assisting with brick, block, stone and concrete installation.

Equipment Repair and Maintenance
•Diagnose, repair, adjust, and maintain a variety of facility equipment and machinery.

•Perform preventive maintenance to reduce equipment failures and extend equipment life.
•Troubleshoot mechanical problems and determine necessary repairs or replacement of components.

•Maintain equipment in a safe and operational condition.

•Assist with repairs to maintenance equipment, event equipment, and other facility-related machinery.

Welding, Fabrication, and Metal Repair
•Weld, cut, fabricate, modify, and repair metal components and structures.

•Fabricate brackets, supports, frames, guards, carts, fixtures, and other components as needed.

•Repair and modify existing metal structures and equipment to meet operational needs.
•Use welding equipment, cutting equipment, grinders, drills, presses, and other shop tools safely.

•Measure, lay out, fit, and assemble metal components.

•Determine appropriate materials, tools, and methods for completing fabrication and repair projects.

Vehicle and Fleet Repair
•Perform routine maintenance and repairs on facility vehicles and related equipment.

•Troubleshoot mechanical problems and assist with vehicle repairs.

•Perform basic repairs involving tires, batteries, lights, fluids, and other components as assigned.

•Maintain vehicles and equipment in safe operating condition.

•Report major mechanical issues requiring outside service or specialized repair.

Varied Tasks
•Performs a variety of tasks in support of facility maintenance, repair, construction, fabrication, modification, installation, and related operations, including tasks that do not fall within a specific trade category.

Facility Operations and Event Support
•Respond to maintenance needs before, during, and after events.

•Support event setups and teardowns, including moving, installing, modifying, and repairing facility equipment and components.

•Respond to emergency and time-sensitive maintenance issues that may affect an event or facility operation.

•Work with other maintenance staff, equipment operators, supervisors, vendors, and event personnel to resolve facility issues.

•Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Teamwork
•Provides support to the Electrical, Sound and Utility Plant departments, and other facility staff as needed.

•Works as part of a team to complete maintenance projects and respond to facility needs.

•Perform general labor and other related duties to support the overall operation and maintenance of the facility

•Maintains a clean, organized, and safe workspace, shop and work areas.

•Properly stores tools, equipment, materials and supplies after use and keeps work areas free of debris, hazards, and unnecessary clutter.

•May be required to work overtime for show or facility needs

Receives work assignments and instructions from the Facility Services Supervisor and management team and completes these assigned tasks. Will use judgement in determining the appropriate hands-on methods, tools, materials and sequence of work needed to complete assigned tasks effectively and safely. Will prioritize assigned work based on urgency, safety concerns, operational needs, deadlines and direction from the Facility Services Supervisor. Consults with the Facility Services Supervisor when clarification, additional direction, specialized expertise or approval are needed.
