Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position provides 24 X 7 operational support and administration of all databases and computer storage systems for the Integrated Enterprise System (IES) providing statewide ERP applications for Financials, Budget, Payroll, Human Resources, Procurement, and Business Warehouse, Time Collection, PennWatch and supporting systems. Work responsibilities include database administration, software installation & upgrade, backup and recovery, performance tuning, system monitoring, error correction, database reorganization, data archiving and disaster recovery. This is an advanced technical position. This position reports to the IES Basis Team Manager.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

• Participate in the day-to-day database administration responsibilities for all IES supported databases running on SAP HANA and Oracle Clusterware across all operation system platforms.
• Coordinate with PA Compute Services (PACS) staff and other IES team members for daily maintenance, change control and project implementation.
• Participate in all aspects of database administration, including:
- Installation, configuration and upgrade of all database software
- Creation and maintenance of all database systems, both SAP and Non-SAP
- Schedule backup and recovery in conjunction with PACS staff
- Monitoring and tuning database to improve performance.
- Identification and trouble-shooting of database level problems.
- Audit of database level security.
• Trouble-shoot technical issues for IES functional team activities
• Monitor database performance using HANA Cockpit and Oracle Enterprise Manager
• Maintain and support for SAP Content Server database (MAXDB)
• Maintain and support for OS and SAP data archiving process
• Participate in IES disaster recovery process
• Participate in IES database off-hours on-call rotation on-site and remotely
• Research, evaluate and implement new technologies and/or procedures
• Provide weekly activity report to Database Manager reporting major project activities
• Maintain latest database administration knowledge through formal training, seminars and publications
• Perform other duties as assigned

Provide initiatives in the research and monitoring of database activities. Advise team manager of system abnormalities and recommend solutions. Develop detailed project plan and execute project plan under the team manager supervision.

Experience:

• Knowledge of advanced information technology and systems administration principles and techniques.
• Knowledge of working principles of server, client, and network operating systems.
• Knowledge of the process of installing and configuring computer systems and peripheral hardware
• Knowledge of Unix and Windows operating systems, including process and file system administration, software installation, script development, job scheduling and trouble shooting
• Knowledge of advanced Oracle database administration processes, including database configuration, SQL, storage management, performance tuning, and data backup and recovery
• Ability to perform system workload analysis
• Ability to perform database backups, restoration, and recovery
• Ability to perform identify and resolve database problems
• Ability to plan, organize, and manage time effectively
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, in speaking and in writing
• Ability to evaluate products scientifically and recommend unbiased solutions

Essential Functions

 1. Provide database support on-site and off-site remotely as required - may require more than 37.5 hrs weekly
 2. Prepare and present clear written and oral reports.

 4. Use of computer equipment and software packages provided by the Commonwealth, including access, input, and retrieval of data.
 5. Conduct research and testing on various computer related products and present findings in written and oral form; including the ability to develop test

 7. Advanced use/knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
