Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Develops and implements therapeutic activities for inmates on the Residential Treatment Unit (RTU), Diversionary Treatment Unit (DTU), Secure Residential Treatment Unit (SRTU), and Special Needs Unit (SNU) within the Department of Corrections (DOC) State Correctional Institution (SCI) Greene.

40% Contributes to program planning, development, and implementation of individual and group therapeutic recreation. Conducts formal assessments of inmate functioning levels, strengths, and needs to formulate individualized therapeutic recreation objectives for presentation to a multi-disciplinary treatment team. Determines methods for accomplishing therapeutic goals, and coordinates inmate therapeutic activities to be integrated with other treatment disciplines. Conducts individual and group therapeutic recreation programs and assessments, providing instruction, direction, and support to inmates. Implements and evaluates therapeutic recreation programming. Recommends changes in order to meet inmate's individual needs, interests, and abilities. Becomes involved in crisis intervention and resolution, as problems arise on the unit.

30% Monitors and reports inmate progress in accomplishing therapeutic recreation goals. Consistently reviews and evaluates inmate therapeutic needs, progress, and ability to meet the prescribed therapeutic recreation goals. Submits periodic reports on participation in therapeutic recreation programs, to include DC-17x file notes, Inmate Cumulative Adjustment Record (ICAR), and Out-of-Cell Programming notations.

20% Serves as a therapeutic recreation representative on a multi-disciplinary treatment team. Attends multi-disciplinary team meetings and provides recommendations regarding the use of specific therapeutic recreation as part of the inmate's individual program plan. Assists team members from other disciplines in assessing an inmate's level of functioning in the development of individualized treatment plans.

5% Requests supplies and equipment necessary to conduct therapeutic recreation programming on and off the unit. Coordinates and schedules the use of space, equipment, supplies, and etc.

5% Performs other related duties as assigned.

12. Hear and identify sounds (voices, whistle, buzzer, lock release, scuffling, sudden quiet)

Independently determines appropriate activities for inmates with various needs and mental health issues. Works closely with multi-disciplinary treatment team and unit management team members. Work is reviewed through the achievement of therapeutic activities program goals and objectives.
