Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This position is located in the Division of Installation Maintenance at Fort Indiantown Gap (FTIG), Annville, Pennsylvania. This is skilled work in the operation of equipment and/or single chassis vehicles with a gross vehicle weight between 10,001 and 32,000 pounds used in the transport of personnel and materials, and/or construction, grounds and maintenance work. An employee in this class also performs manual work when not operating equipment. Work is assigned with instructions clearly outlining the scope of each project. However, little or no instructions are received in the techniques of operating the equipment or the methods used in obtaining the specified results unless difficult problems arise. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Maintains required Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) B with air brake restriction removed and the tanker endorsement. Properly performs all required pre- and post-operations checks in accordance with legal requirements. Must submit to and pass random but mandatory Drug/Alcohol testing. Properly performs all required pre- and post-operational checks in accordance with legal requirements. Operates a variety of foot and manual controls, utilizes seatbelts. Actively participates in snow removal operations during regular hours and overtime/shifts. Operates push mowers, zero turn mowers, small tractor mowers and string trimmers. Performs a variety of labor duties using hand and power tools such as chainsaws, jack hammers, tampers, shovels, rakes, brooms; selects and uses tools properly for job to minimize wear and breakage, reports missing or broken equipment. Performs traffic control such as flagging, setting up work zone signs and traffic cones. Use tools for checking grades and to measure cut and fill operations. Fuels equipment across post. Maintains a fuel log for fueling usage. Maintains a safe work environment for self and co-workers and the motoring public by following proper safety procedures and using proper safety equipment. Maintains awareness of work area by helping self and others avoid risks and hazards. Maintains knowledge of proper radio procedures with the Airfield Tower and knowledge of working in proximity of active aircraft on multiple airfields and landing zones. Maintains knowledge of proper radio procedures with Range Control to call on and off active and non-active Firing Ranges as well as communicating with Range Control to open closed gates to perform scheduled and emergency repairs or maintenance. Maintains knowledge of proper Unexploded Ordnance procedures, identifying Unexploded Ordnance’s and safety precautions. Maintains knowledge of occupational hazards and required safety precautions. Uses PPE in the performance of their assigned duties. Assists Diesel mechanics in making repairs to equipment when needed. Performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance work on equipment which includes cleaning and servicing equipment and trucks. Maintain a favorable National Crime Information Center (NCIC) screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap. Must maintain an Automated Installation Entry (AIE) card once issued. Performs work in accordance with the DMVA general safety rules and safety rules for this position. Immediately reports all workplace injuries or incidents to the supervisor, and or immediately corrects any safety hazards in the work area or reports same to the supervisor. Our goals will be achieved by continuing our focus on injury reduction through education and accountability. Performs other related duties as required. ** Successfully complete the CDL program and obtain class A endorsement within first 180 days of employment.** **Must possess a valid federal or state-issued photo ID and pass a favorable NCIC screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.** The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) will provide the tuition and initial testing costs for the employee to obtain their Commercial Driver's License (CDL), endorsement. The employee must meet all the requirements to enroll in the Pennsylvania CDL training program including but not limited to: Possess a valid Class C Driver's License, Pre-admittance testing to include obtaining a valid permit with "E" and "L" restrictions removed, Required paperwork such as application / enrollment forms, Present required forms of identification, Complete residency verification, and meet physical requirements for getting a PA CDL Permit. Employee is expected to resolve most operating problems and make appropriate decisions to complete assignments. Make appropriate decisions with respect to prints, grade stakes and markings on excavation sites with minimal or no supervision. |
