Position Purpose:

Provides individual and group Therapeutic Recreation Services to assigned consumers at the Regional Forensic Psychiatric Center, Norristown State Hospital. Therapeutic Recreation operations are conducted efficiently and effectively to ensure the highest quality of individualized treatment and support.

Employee's prime responsibility lies in the delivery of Therapeutic Recreation Services to the residents of the Regional Forensic Psychiatric Center.
Therapeutic Recreation services utilize games, exercises, arts and crafts, sports, literature, current events, music, social activities, relapse prevention groups, pro social leisure skills groups, and yard activities to promote comprehensive treatment for residents.

The FTRSW will:
1. Conduct formal assessments of patients to determine functional levels, strengths, needs, interests and abilities to design, organize, conduct and evaluate specifically- planned therapeutic recreation methods that help patients achieve goals and objectives as specified in the comprehensive treatment plan.
2. Monitor and document patient progress in the treatment record.
3. Maintain and submit monthly reports to the Supervisor regarding daily patient programs, attendance, participation, quality assurance monitors, special events, observations, problems, and needs to ensure that TR services are conducted efficiently and effectively.
4. Attend multidisciplinary treatment team meetings to provide professional feedback, both written and oral, regarding progress toward meeting specific treatment goals.
5. Participate in TR Department staff meetings, supervisory consultations, and other professional meetings as assigned.
6. Procure and organize supplies, equipment and space for therapeutic recreation programs within the treatment unit and/or program areas to maintain efficient operations.
7. Submit requisitions for supplies, equipment, and space for TR programs within the treatment unit and in program areas.
8. Assist with generalized assignments such as holiday banquets, picnics, and interdisciplinary special functions.
9. Assist in maintaining a clean, safe and secure quality therapeutic environment on the treatment unit and in program areas.
10. Input leave requests into on-line SAP time management system.

Without prior approval:
1.Assess patients, design and implement Therapeutic Recreation programs based on individual needs and treatment goals and objectives.
2.Manage time allotted for planning, documentation, writing reports and program evaluation.
3.Document TR interventions and progress in the patient’s record.

Prior approval:
1.Requisition program funds, supplies, and equipment through the department supervisor.
2.Interpret Hospital and Departmental policies and procedures.
3.Schedule program coverage with the supervisor prior to scheduled leave/absences.
