Position Purpose:

This is a professional position in the development and supervision of all programs and offerings at the Presque Isle State Park Complex (Presque Isle State Park, Erie Bluffs State Park and Tom Ridge Center at Presque Isle.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION & INTERPRETATION

Employee supervises and participates in the development, implementation and coordination of environmental education and interpretive programs and activities at Presque Isle State Park. This work requires establishing and maintaining close liaison and working relationships with local and state conservation groups, civic organizations, schools, colleges and the public concerning environmental education and interpretive programs.

Supervises and participates in the planning, development, coordination and presentation of environmental education and interpretive programs and activities at Presque Isle State Park.

Supervises the scheduling and implementation of programs and activities; the development of lesson plans and the evaluation of the effectiveness of the programs and activities.

Develops and maintains the master schedule of programs and activities planned for Presque Isle State Park.

Supervises environmental education and interpretive activities including discovery learning activities, audiovisual presentations and other environmental learning programs.

Supervises the provision of assistance, guidance, and advice to educational institutions, civic groups and public organizations in developing and implementing environmental education and interpretive programs, teacher in-service workshops and curriculum development.

Supervises the operation and maintenance of resource libraries; the maintenance of natural, historical, cultural and archeological collections; the research and development of educational publications and exhibits and the use, repair and maintenance of environmental education and interpretive equipment.

Plans, organizes, prepares and maintains the development, implementation, updating and reviewing of the park’s Interpretive Plan.

Plans and prepares the yearly submittal of the Presque Isle State Park program plan.

Coordinates educational activities and seminars with partner organizations.

Assists with management of the Invasive Species program by scheduling EE staff when needed.

Assists in the supervision of the intern and volunteer program.

Assists management in prescriptions for various resource management strategies and practices on Presque Isle State Park.

Supervises the development and implementation of special environmental education and interpretive programs and activities for use at Presque Isle State Park focusing on localized natural history, historic and cultural events and environmental management issues for students, youth groups, special populations, civic organizations and others.

Supervises the development, scheduling, implementation and coordination of teacher in-service workshops, college level courses and college level curricula.

Supervises the conduct of guided walks and audiovisual presentations, including supervising the preparation of lesson plans and scripts for the presentations.

Plans and organizes work; assigns work; determines workflow; develops performance standards and evaluates employee performance; interviews and recommends employee selection; approves leave requests; investigates and answers grievances and complaints; initiates corrective disciplinary actions; interprets rules, regulations, policies, procedures, standards, guidelines and objectives and arranges training for subordinates.

Establishes and maintains working relationships with local and state conservation groups, civic organizations and the public concerning environmental education and interpretive programs.

Prepares letters, memoranda, correspondence, reports, lesson plans and other written material as required.

Manages all aspects of Social Media for the park including Facebook and Twitter.

TOM RIDGE ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER

Develop environmental education and interpretive programming specific to the functions of the TREC.

Schedules EE staff to cover the TREC welcome desk in the absence of clerical employees.

Assist in the planning and development of all exhibits at TREC and throughout the park complex.

Coordinate program availability & scheduling of activities in conjunction with the operation of the Center.

Responsible for scheduling the use of exhibit items such as panels at the TREC.

Develops teacher resource materials for school/organized groups visiting the Center.

ERIE BLUFFS STATE PARK

Develop and implement programming that fits the theme of this property that will be managed by Presque Isle.

Work cooperatively with archeological teams in highlighting significant resources and learning opportunities.

Assist in developing the Resource Management Plan for this site.

Travels to various work locations.

Performs similar work as required.

Manages and oversees social media posting and content.
