Position Purpose:

The Posted and Bonded Roads Transportation Technician is responsible to ensure that the state highways system in District 3-0 are inspected and maintained according to the department’s guidelines and procedures.

Description of Duties:

As a Transportation Technician under the supervision of the Posted and Bonded Roads Coordinator, the duties and responsibilities of the technician include, but not limited to, the following:

- Perform Initial, Weekly and Final roadway inspections as directed and document the condition of the roadway.
- Gather data from roadway inspections for input into the Posted and Bonded Roads Roadway Condition Survey database.
- Input data into the Roadway Condition Survey database.
- Photo document and video log existing roadway conditions as needed.
- Alert appropriate personnel to potential safety hazards on inspected roadways.
- Inspection of roadway maintenance and upgrade projects including Maintenance and Protection of Traffic.
- Perform posting inspections of a roadway for possible weight restriction
- Prepare Engineering and Traffic Studies on potential posted roadways.
- Transfer photos and videos from camera to storage devices and locations.
- Assess damage to roadway and recommend actions based on those assessments.

Essential Functions

 1. Travel across various types of terrain.
 2. Read, write, and speak clearly.
 3. Input/receive information utilizing electronic devices and a variety of software systems.
 4. Maneuver safely around moving traffic and equipment.
 5. React immediately to hazard warning devices, such as signs, sirens, and alarms.
 6. Use required personal protective equipment and be responsible for its care, storage, and maintenance.
 7. Sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, and climb; lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Withstand periods of heavy exertion.
 8. Travel to inspection sites.
 9. Tolerate exposure to noise, outdoors, adverse weather conditions, various plants and insects, and chemicals within Safety Data Sheet (SDS) limits.
 10. Work extended hours in excess of eight hours per shift seasonally and/or be on call beyond normal business hours.
