Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care and treatment services. The Registered Nurse assesses the consumers’ physical, psychosocial and/or mental health status. The Registered Nurse performs ongoing assessment of consumer and consumer care needs; utilizes nursing process for treatment and in developing and implementing ITP; complies with documentation policy and ITP manual; prescribes, coordinates, and delegates and monitors nursing care; collaborates with other facility disciplines; provides nursing expertise to interdisciplinary treatment team; assesses, records, reports, and evaluates vital signs, symptoms, and reactions or responses to medication and treatment; performs ongoing assessments and management of consumers with pain; participates in staff development programs; provides ongoing orientation/education and on-the-job training to RN's/LPN's/PA's; utilizes least restrictive measures, follows hospital/nursing policy in the care and documentation of consumers in seclusion/exclusion/restraint/special observation; adheres to infection control/HIV policies and procedures; utilizes approved crisis prevention techniques; accurately complies with medication policy and completion of physician’s orders; completes variance reports for medication distribution system; applies knowledge of Hospital/Nursing policies and procedures; initiates, conducts and documents nursing programs; maintains awareness of ward conditions, therapeutic milieu, and consumer activities; acts as consumer advocate; participates in Nursing PI and Hospital PI activities; utilizes therapeutic communication; provides knowledgeable daily communication; participates in nursing and facility committees/activities; provides health promotion and maintenance through consumer/family teaching, guidance, and counseling; assigns and directs the work of professional personnel and supervises assigned non-professional staff; applies professional and psychiatric nursing concepts, techniques, and procedures in consumer care; interacts with others in a cooperative manner to develop effective working relationships; prepares and submits reports as required; develops, recommends and directs changes in the administration of Nursing care and treatment methods and plans; provides guidance to paraprofessional staff in implementing, receiving and modifying the consumer’s plan of care; performs other related duties as requested. ADA Essential Functions: 1. Transcribes Physician’s orders 2. Prepares and administers prescribed medications/treatments 3. Develops consumer goals and interventions as member of the interdisciplinary treatment team. 4. Carries out treatment programs 5. Positions and lifts consumers 6. Conducts nursing groups/consumer education 7. Acts as a consumer advocate 8. Completes oral and written reports/documentation 9. Operates and cares for medical equipment 10. Directs/supervises staff on work area 11. Obtain and maintains Crisis Intervention and CPR certifications and appropriately utilizes skills 12. Responds to emergency situations 13. Follows safety/infection control measures 14. Maintains a safe/clean environment 15. Reads, writes, and communications orally in English 16. As an essential employee, you may be required to report to duty during a disaster 17. Works overtime as required |
