Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively.

This position is assigned to the Bureau of State Parks, Keystone State Park. This internship will provide a broad exposure to all aspects of state park operations and management. This position will also assist park staff in various projects while gaining experience in park operations, maintenance, office administration, natural resource management and GIS data gathering and input.

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Work with park staff to learn how to manage a park's natural resources, which includes the preparation, maintenance, and adherence to a park's resource management plan. Assist a licensed pesticide applicator in treating invasive species and or participate in the mechanical removal of invasive species.

Using developed themes and lesson plans, intern will participate with special activities for park visitors through a series of environmental and outdoor recreation programs that can focus on a variety of topics including natural history, historic and cultural events, outdoor recreation, and resources management.

Intern will engage the visiting public through contacts both in the park office and in the field, providing outstanding customer service. Intern will become familiar with amenities and facilities in the park as well as general park rules and regulations.

Intern will assist with park office tasks, volunteer coordination, campground operations, and assist campground hosts as needed. Attend Commonwealth training and other meetings.

Intern will gain experience in the field of park maintenance by assisting maintenance staff with specific assignments.

Intern will operate a state vehicle in conjunction with certain job duties. Intern may assist park staff with certain duties from a boat, UTV, kayak, or bicycle.

Performs special projects and other duties as required or assigned.

Intern will work under the direction of the supervisor. The position has considerable
freedom and exercises independent judgment to utilize personal knowledge, skills, technical knowledge, and initiative to attain goals, objectives, and desired results.

Work assignments and projects are often self-generated upon identification of problems or situations. Employee updates supervisor as needed or as scheduled on activities or special issues. Work is reviewed during or upon completion of assignments.
