Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively.

Assist in collection of data for Silvicultural treatments. Assist in tallying and marking timber. Surveying timber units and haul roads with a GPS Unit. Tree planting, recreational trail maintenance, VIP Data collection plots, 4–8-year stocking Plot Data Collection, mapping and ground checking Insect & Disease damage, invasive species treatments and Deer Fence Maintenance.

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

1. Obtain timber volumes by cruising and/or marking trees and enter data into a Data Collector.
2.Survey and mark Timber Sale boundaries and haul roads, trails and planting sites.
3.Assist Foresters in collection of field data for timber sales, wildlife work, oil & gas work.
4.Operate a Data Collector and various computer programs.
5.Assist with herbicide application when needed to control invasives and competing understory vegetation.
6. Assist with repair and maintenance of Deer Fences.
7. Assist with tree planting.
8. Assist Recreational Forester with trail maintenance and various recreation related tasks.

Gather necessary tools and equipment for the days tasks. Maintenance of Data Collector and hand tools used in tree planting and timber tallying. Fuel and basic maintenance of state assigned vehicle

Experience:

The selected candidate will be a current student at a college or university where they are pursuing a degree in Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries, Recreation Management, or Environmental Studies.
