This is skilled journey-level automotive mechanic work at work site, Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, Bureau of Veterans Homes, in the maintenance and repair of Commonwealth vehicles, equipment, and parts. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Repairs and overhauls vehicles such as cars, trucks, and tractors and carries out maintenance and repairs on other related equipment. Repairs and replaces shock absorbers, transmissions, hour meters, clutches, brakes, and other parts. Balances wheels and checks for proper alignment; makes minor body repairs; and overhauls and tests alternators and electrical components on vehicles and equipment. Carries out a preventive maintenance program on vehicles, equipment, and parts. Clean, wash, detail and gas vehicles. Check vehicles for damage routinely and during any applicable service. Performs automotive mechanical diagnostics, tune-ups, and tire changes; repairs and replaces engine sub-assemblies; repairs and adjusts the cooling, suspension, electrical, heating, and air-conditioning components; and maintains fuel, brake, steering and transmission systems. Repairs or rebuilds construction or shop equipment. Performs official state inspections for safety on vehicles; makes repairs to ensure compliance with specifications; road tests vehicles; fills out inspection stickers and affixes to vehicles; and completes State Inspection Records and related inspection paperwork. Requests and obtains parts and supplies as needed. Prepares automotive records and reports. Performs emergency road service and prepares reports on completed work. Prepare reports on activities as required. Completes and follows-up on all work orders accounting for time, material, and work performed. Keeps maintenance and operational records of all equipment in this category such as equipment cards, charts, work orders, inventories, and completion records. Keep and maintain logs for preventative maintenance and inspection due dates for BVH vehicle inventory. Obtains estimates of damaged vehicles and coordinates repairs at local garages and repair shops as necessary. Perform electric and acetylene welding. Performs cleaning responsibilities for the Garage. Provides direction to employees such as Equipment Operators and Semi-Skilled Laborers. May transport or coordinate transportation for residents to and from activities or appointments using state vehicles. Maintains positive, constructive working relationships with co-workers; remains aware of the needs and sensitivities of others. Conducts job duties in compliance with established Commonwealth, DMVA, BVH and SVH policies, guidelines, and procedures. Maintains and improves job skills and competencies by participating in and attending staff training programs to improve the safety and quality of resident care. Performs work in accordance with the DMVA general safety rules and safety rules for this position. Immediately reports all workplace injuries or incidents to the supervisor; and/or immediately corrects any safety hazards in the work area or reports same to the supervisor. Support the BVH’s QAPI efforts by attending all assigned QAPI training; following established policies and procedures in support of QAPI efforts; participate and lead PIP teams as assigned; managing processes, sharing ideas for improvement in the organization; collecting and analyzing data, and supporting QAPI efforts both verbally and non-verbally, including adjusting performance and practice in accordance with QAPI initiatives and findings. Coach and mentor staff in the use of QAPI tools and techniques. Perform other related duties as required. |
