Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

An employee in this job assists professional Therapeutic Activities staff by conducting planned and scheduled Therapeutic programming as either a lead or co-lead to a therapeutic group. Work involves conducting planned activity sessions and providing instruction and assistance to participants to improve their personal and psychosocial rehabilitative objectives. Work includes observing, reviewing, and reporting participant progress to professional Therapeutic Activities staff to ensure they are achieving their treatment goals. An employee in this position may also provide 1:1 guidance and encouragement to client individuals identified as needing additional support to maximize and encourage participation in programming. Work is performed under the guidance of Therapeutic Activities Services Supervisor in accordance with established plans and procedures and is reviewed by a professional or administrative supervisor through observation, reports, and conferences. An employee in this position will complete group notes and individual notes in the electronic health record charting system that documents programming outcomes and individual participation in groups. An employee in this position will not be responsible for a clinical caseload or treatment team assignment.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

• Assists professional staff in planning, organizing, and conducting activities that enhance or retain participants’ functionality in such areas as socialization, self-help, and self-esteem or other treatment team identified objectives.

• Observes participant behavior and provides feedback on progress, strengths, and needs through Group and individual program notes in the EHR documentation charting system.

• Arranges for participants to be escorted safely to and from activity areas.

• Maintains equipment and materials requesting repairs or supplies when needed.

• Participates in training designed for staff conducting therapeutic activities and applies what was learned to meet individual needs and treatment goals.

• Ensures activity areas are free of hazards and provide instruction to participants and volunteers regarding safety practices and precautions when using supplies and equipment.

• Attends and participates in departmental program planning meetings to provide information regarding activities, participant needs, and progress within the scope of their duties.

• Performs related work as required.

• Provide a safe program environment by complying with all Hospital and Department safety standards in order to prevent consumer and staff injury.

• Performs related work as required.
• Provide escort to community trips as assigned.
