Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This is a managerial position assisting the Correctional Industries Manager 2 in the management, direction and control of the Correctional Industries operations at State Correctional Institutions at Fayette and Greene. These programs consist of metal products and license plate factory, and garment shop. |
Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 50% Plans, organizes, and directs the overall operations of designated CI industries. Establishes priorities, goals, and objectives and communicates expectations to subordinate staff. Determines staffing needs and priorities based on established facility and departmental goals and objectives. Maintains annual budget as assigned by the fiscal department. Develops, revises, and implements functional work processes and procedures. Establishes, schedules, and implements orientation and on-the-job training programs for staff and inmate workers. 20% Conducts inspections and reviews of individual industries and addresses identified deficiencies. Enforces compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and processes. Ensures compliance to security, safety, tool control, and ACA/ADA standards. 20% Develops operating plans for providing goods and services consistent with forecasted needs, goals, and objectives. Projects for the need and/or use of labor, materials, equipment, and time based on established priorities and schedules. Develops, implements, and supervises production methods, goals, and quality control procedures and standards. Oversees inventory control, time and production records, payroll records, cost control, cost analysis, and the ordering of raw materials and supplies. 5% Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings. Maintains records and prepares reports on sales, production, operational costs, staffing costs, goals, objectives, and strategic plans, as well as proposals for increases in production, and expansion of existing industries and service improvements. Participates in administrative staff meetings. Responds to union and inmate grievances. Searches inmates and work areas for contraband and ensures security of work area. 5% Performs other related duties as required. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Exercise therapeutic care, custody, and control over inmates 2. Manage Correctional Industries programs and operations through subordinate staff 3. Supervise and evaluate the work of subordinate staff 4. Effectively communicate verbally and in writing 5. Review, analyze, and interpret information 6. Establish and maintain effective working relationships 7. Operate basic office equipment 8. Maintain regular and reliable attendance 9. Visually observe inmates’ activities 10. Be mobile over all types of physical surfaces and levels 11. Hear and identify sounds (voices, whistle, buzzer, lock release, scuffling, sudden quiet) 12. Attend and participate in all mandatory training and/or testing 13. Work mandatory overtime, with little or no advance notice, whether on or off duty at the time of notification 14. Travel as required |

A Correctional Industries Manager 2 or other higher-level administrative supervisor reviews performance through work results to ensure quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of work. The CIM2 or administrative supervisor may be consulted for any unusual issues. |
