Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Performs New Entrant Safety Audits on motor carriers in accordance with state laws and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Preforms inspections on commercial motor vehicles and operators to determine compliance with and enforce state and federal motor carrier safety laws and regulations. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 85% Conducts New Entrant Safety Audits off-site and on-site at motor carrier company facilities, as required. Also may assist with conducting motor carrier Compliance Reviews, as needed. 5% Selects motor carrier vehicles for a variety of inspections, interviews operators, reviews vehicle and operator documents, performs inspections of truck and trailer safety parts and equipment, consults and interprets laws, issues traffic citations and warnings, and notifies operators of required corrective action. Prepares and maintains reports/files. Prepares for judicial hearings and provides testimony as required. 5% Operates and assures proper condition of equipment and vehicle. Attends training and completes recertification requirements. 5% Performs other related duties, as directed. Requirements Profile: 1. Possession or attainment of Basic MCSAP Certification during probationary period and maintenance of Certification for tenure in job. 2. Possession or attainment of General Hazardous Materials Inspection Certification during probationary period and maintenance of Certification for tenure in job. 3. Obtain MCSAP New Entrant Safety Auditor Certification during the probationary period and maintain Certification for tenure in job. |

Refers to supervisor regarding potential complex violations of the law and New Entrant Safety Audits and/or that are not within the parameters of a New Entrant Safety Audit or motor carrier vehicle/operator safety inspections. Refers to State Police Trooper potential violations of the law that are not within the scope of motor carrier vehicle/operator safety inspections. |
