Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position investigates the financial status of residents admitted to a Veteran’s long-term care facility for the purpose of determining monthly maintenance fees.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Contact residents or their legally liable party to assess income and assets in order to compute monthly maintenance fees.

Investigate excessive or unusual expenses and questionable circumstances relating to income, assets, or liabilities.

Compute interim assessments maintenance fees as changes occur in monthly income or changes in legally acceptable obligations. Prepare form SVH-110 indicating changes to determine newly assessed charges. Notify resident or legally liable party of new charges and effective dates. Submit SVH-110 to the Commandant for approval.

Complete Medicaid applications for nursing care admissions and determine eligibility.

Issue monthly “credits” to resident accounts and deduct payments for medical services. Verify all physician orders for treatment and statement of charges for services rendered outside of the facility to determine appropriate deductions allowable.

Maintain daily census report for reimbursement of federal and state revenue.

Ensure maximum dollar collections from all sources by regularly reviewing eligibility status for receipt of any federal and state benefits.

Notify federal issuing agencies of the death or discharge of a resident.

Ensure the electronic medical record is correct by entering admissions information, charges, credits, payments, and appropriate changes.

Accept deposits to the Members Fund Account, reconciles deposits with the Accounting Office who is responsible for the maintenance and investment of the Members Fund Account.

Conduct reassessments quarterly as part of the Enhanced Veterans Reimbursement (EVR) program.

Maintain knowledge and interpretation of federal, state, and DMVA regulations and standards for departmental use in advising veterans and the public requesting such data.

Establish and maintain resident files to include all admission forms and financial data. Copy, distribute, and document all completed resident financial forms

Compile VA Form 10-10F for submission to the VA Medical Center for determination of entitlement to inpatient/outpatient services, based on income.

Maintain knowledge of all accounting procedures according to the rules and regulations as they pertain to the facility.

Apply for VA pensions and other benefits for admitted veterans by preparing the appropriate forms, communicating with issuing authority, and following-up on the status of applications.

Assist with Medicare billing and posting of third party payments as needed.

Performs work in accordance with the DMVA general safety rules and safety rules for this position. Immediately reports all workplace injuries or incidents to the supervisor; and/or immediately corrects any safety hazards in the work area or reports same to supervisor.

Perform other related duties as required.
