Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position will perform various skilled and semi-skilled work spanning multiple trades in the repair and maintenance of machinery, buildings, bridges, and equipment in support of District 8 Engineering Office.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Repairs doors, door frames, and furniture; fabricates and installs temporary partitions; builds forms; and operates and maintains wood lathe, sanders, jointer, power saw, planer, and related power and hand tools to perform assigned carpentry duties.

Paints and decorates interiors of buildings; and performs masonry work in connection with buildings, bridges, foundations, walks, and walls.

Installs and maintains plumbing fixtures; maintains steam lines, steam heating, and cooking equipment; repairs hospital sterilizers; and measures, cuts, threads and installs pipe for steam and water lines.

Installs electric circuits, wall plugs, and lighting fixtures; and repairs and reconditions fans.

Makes repairs and adjustments to equipment/machinery and schedules oiling and greasing of equipment.

Performs lead work over helpers performing basic assignments.

Makes repairs to roofs and installs flashing and spouts.

Welds and brazes metals by use of arc and acetylene welders; and erects steel for construction.

Performs repair on bridge structures, such as building forms, finishing concrete, welding steel components, and operating construction equipment when required.

Cuts grass using lawn care equipment.

Removes snow from sidewalks and parking lots using basic snow removal equipment.

Performs related work as required.

Available to receive 24-hour/7-day emergency maintenance calls from on-site staff and Capital Police. Conducts on-site review of the emergencies, establishes work, prioritizes, and assigns to appropriate maintenance contractor(s) to accomplish necessary repairs.

Follow recycling procedures for all universal waste including florescent lamps, ballasts, aerosol cans, and batteries. Responsible for all District 8-0 Office facilities.

Perform various skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of grounds, buildings, and equipment, and machinery to include: fire alarm, sprinklers, automatic fire and smoke dampers, fire extinguishers, building energy management system, electrical, area rescue assistance system, security access system, elevator and wheel chair lift, building automatic generator transfer system, and generator monitoring system.

Serves as the District 8-0 Office building Fire Marshall

Other duties as assigned.

SEMP:
Works with the Highway Maintenance Coordinator regarding SEMP, to ensure facilities practice good housekeeping and meet all environmental and permit requirements.

Manages and performs the activities to fulfill the requirements identified for this Title in the District's Sound Environmental Practices (SEMP) Manual. Also fulfills the environmental management requirements designated for this title in environmental training programs.

Implements the maintenance unit SEMP business plan objectives designated for this title. Takes an active role in supporting the efforts of other managers and employees to implement the SEMP-related maintenance unit business plan objectives.

Attends environmental training identified for this Working Title in the District's SEMP Manual for Sound Environmental Practices.

Succession Planning:
Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees.
