Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Participates in the maintenance and implementation of the laboratory’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Office of Weights and Measures (OWM) laboratory recognition and NIST, National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) accreditation. Calibrates field standards for State, County and Municipal officials and working standards for industry. Calibration of these items requires long periods of standing and repeatedly lifting the items in accordance with the SOP’s. Calibrates Class IIII Scales (wheel load or axle load weighers) used by the Pennsylvania State Police, municipal police departments, PennDOT districts and commercial entities to enforce and comply vehicle weight laws and permits. Calibration of these items requires long periods of standing and repeatedly lifting the items in accordance with the SOP’s. Participates in the Northeast Measurement Assurance Program (NEMAP), a regional organization of NIST, Office of Weights and Measures (NIST, OWM), to aid in the continuing evaluation of the laboratory's measurements assurance. Participates in internal and external management system audits. Compiles findings and implements the appropriate actions. Corrective action will require cause and risk analysis along with a timely review of the effectiveness of the action taken. Participates in the cleaning of the laboratory floors, walls, comparator tables, benches and equipment as assigned. Calibrates, or prepares for, the calibration of laboratory reference and working standards for mass, volume, length, time, and force including peripheral equipment to ensure metrological traceability to the SI. Prepares calibration certificates in compliance to the ISO/IEC 17025 Standard. Uses a variety of equipment (straps, chains, lifting fixtures, forklift, and fork extenders) to safely handle customer artifacts for calibration from receipt to final shipment in accordance with laboratory procedures. Customer mass artifacts range from 6000 lb to 0.001 lb, 2500 kg to 1 mg, volume measures from 1500 gallon to 1 gallon. Inputs and evaluates measurement assurance data real time. Evaluation of this data requires the understanding and use of basic statistical techniques commonly used in laboratories. Become an approved signatory for the entire scope of the laboratory accreditation by; Successful completion NIST, Office of Weights and Measures (OWM) training and exam covering the entire scope of the laboratory accreditation. Successful completion of NIST OWM Laboratory Auditing Problems (LAP). Successful completion of proficiency tests covering the entire scope of the laboratory accreditation. Performs other related duties as required. |

Work is performed under the general supervision of the metrology supervisor and is reviewed for adherence to established goals, objectives, and desired results. |
