Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position learns and participates in examinations of financial non-depository institutions. This includes conducting initial examinations of less complex non-depository financial institution license applications. Examinations are conducted to ensure compliance with established laws, regulations, and sound management practices and to assess the character, reputation, fitness, background, and other relevant factors and requirements of non-depository institution applicants and respective control persons.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Participates in variety of practical training assignments and practice examinations designed to further competence and develop skills in the application of examining techniques.

Performs initial examinations of less complex corporate and branch applications under the guidance of a Supervisor or higher-level examiner and/or assists with components of more complex examinations.

Assists in analyzing a financial institution's operations, financial records, regulatory filings, business plans, operational/risk management policies/procedures, and consumer files to assist in determining compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
Prepares correspondence and/or contacts the applicants via telephone or email regarding insufficient information provided and requests additional documentation if needed.

Learns the laws, regulations, and policies governing state licensed non-depository institutions, and learns to communicate with institutions on interpretation of laws, regulations, and policies.

Learns to interpret and investigate applicant and control person financial and criminal backgrounds to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.

Identifies weaknesses, deficiencies, and omissions and makes suggestions to supervisor or higher-level examiner for improvements or courses of action.
Participates in discussing any findings, issues, and violations discovered in the examination with Supervisor or higher-level examiner. Based on those discussions, assists in making licensing decision. Discusses all areas of uncertainty with supervisor or higher-level examiner.
Learns to prepare and document reports or comments based on findings in NMLS System that evaluate the compliance of financial non-depository institutions in accordance with applicable federal and state examination policies and procedures.
Learns to prepare monthly reports for management detailing the status of currently assigned applications under review.
Attends and participates in a variety of training assignments as well as training conferences, seminars, and courses to develop and maintain required knowledge, competency, and skill.

Performs other related duties as required.

Decision Making:

Example: In response to a customer inquiry, this work involves researching the status of an activity and preparing a formal response for the supervisor’s signature.

Employee performs various training assignments, learns examination techniques, and functions with limited independence under a Supervisor who reviews work. Discusses all areas of uncertainty with Supervisor prior to communicating licensing decision and/or deficiencies with applicants. As knowledge is acquired and experience is gained, responsibility of the employee will increase.
