This is a professional and administrative nursing position in management that is responsible for the coordination of nursing care and treatment of consumers at WeSH. The NMI provides direct supervision of the Registered Nurse Supervisors and is directly supervised by the Chief Nurse Executive. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. The NM1 plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and evaluates the provision of nursing services operations. The NM1 oversees the continuity of nursing care and services to ensure patients are provided nursing care and treatment consistent with the policies, procedures, standards, and treatment plans of professional nursing practice. The NM1 evaluates the nursing care and treatment process to ensure compliance with the medical, psychiatric and nursing regime, and that optimum care and treatment are provided for the patient. The NM1 coordinates and collaborates individual/patient nursing care and treatment with other disciplines, assisting in the maintenance of nursing treatment and nursing quality improvement/risk management standards. The NM1 directs, instructs and manages professional and non-professional nursing staff in the application of professional nursing practices and in the direct care and treatment of individual patients. Assures that nursing services are provided by staff that have the skills to recognize and respect behavior, ideas, attitudes, values, beliefs, customs, language, and practices characteristic of the patients. Participates in the development of policies/procedures regulating the conduct of nursing services; continuously evaluates their effectiveness and promotes staff development and continuing nursing education and training. Is actively involved in the planning phases of organizational changes identifying priority areas based on assessment needs. Supervises Registered Nurse Supervisor and evaluates their overall capabilities in providing professional nursing care and treatment. Supervises nursing services staff responsible for the provision of direct patient nursing care and treatment. Makes rounds to ensure patients are provided care consistent with policies/procedures/nursing care/standards. Monitors the competency of the nursing staff; Evaluate the quality of life of the patients. Serves as a resource person to staff and other disciplines through participation in committees/conferences. Assess nursing service budget needs consistent with department and in conjunction with nursing administration. Assesses staffing patterns/competency/staffing needs to ensure that staff utilization is sufficient within the clinical treatment areas, programming, and individual/patient care wards and living areas. Serves as a resource person to Nursing staff and other disciplines to facilitate quality of care. This employee has been assigned responsibility as a Patient Abuse Investigator at Wernersville State Hospital. As such, the employee is expected to participate in all required training and, as assigned, conduct and carry out investigations in a professional and timely manner. Investigations will be carried out in a manner consistent with DHS Manual Section 7178 and Hospital Policy Section 703. While performing patient abuse investigations, the employee will be responsible directly to the CEO. |

Decisions regarding subordinate supervision are made in accordance with DHS personnel regulations, policies and procedures and Governor’s Code of Conduct, union contracts and hospital/departmental policies and procedures. |
