Position Purpose:

Assures the planning, implementation, and evaluation of resident care based on standards of nursing and Gerontological practice and standards of resident care through supervision of nursing staff.

This is a Registered Nurse Supervisor position under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager. This position communicates and collaborates on a regular basis with the Director of Nursing, Nurse Manager I, and the supervisors of the other shifts to provide consistent continuity of care and supervision.

Serves as a resource person/mentor to nursing staff, nursing administration, members of the interdisciplinary team, and resident support services; promotes teamwork.

The Registered Nurse Supervisor, through his/her daily physical presence, continuously reviews all phases of nursing service, acting as a resident advocate to ensure that residents are provided treatment and has the major responsibility of direct clinical supervision and leadership by planning, directing, controlling, and evaluating the delivery of resident care in multiple resident care areas.

The Registered Nurse Supervisor establishes and maintains a safe therapeutic environment for residents and staff;

•Communication: 25%
o Utilizes therapeutic communication;
o Provides knowledgeable daily communication with resident and employees;
o Utilizes therapeutic communication;
o Manages organizational change to achieve positive results;
o Communicates with residents’ families as needed in the absence of social worker;
o Notifies administrator-on-call and other staff as necessary;

•Continuous improvement and staff development: 25%
o Participates in Nursing and Facility Performance Improvement activities as well as nursing and facility committees /activities;
o Participates and monitors attendance in staff development programs;
o Identifies and provides ongoing orientation/education and on-the-job training to professional and non-professional nursing personnel;
o Applies knowledge and follows hospital/nursing policies and procedures
o Encourages and recognizes employee involvement;

• Documentation Efforts: 45%
o Maintains records, completes/reviews MDS, prepares reports, and completes employee evaluations; supervises and directs professional, para-professional, and non-professional nursing care staff through observation.

• Performs other related duties as requested: 5%
