Position Purpose:

Assist park staff in various projects while gaining experience in Park Operations, Resource Management, Administration, and Environmental Education.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Intern will work at Ryerson Station State Park as well as assist the Regional Office with various events, inspections, programs, and projects. Intern will be capable of performing the following duties in relation to ongoing studies, research, monitoring, environmental education, and maintenance projects at Ryerson Station State Park.

Engage with the visiting public through contacts in both the field and office. Provide outstanding customer service to ensure a memorable visit.

Work with staff to learn how to manage the parks natural, cultural, and historic resources, which includes the preparation, maintenance, and adherence to park management plans.

Work with staff by interpreting and applying statewide park operation rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Work with staff to prepare letters, reports, and correspondence as required. Assist in preparing draft press release to inform the public and others of park activities, programs, and special events.

Assist with special events and work with volunteers.

Assist Environmental Education Staff with planning and programs.

Wear personal protection equipment where required.

Operate a state vehicle to/from work locations.

May be required to perform other special work as required.

Complete/obtain any needed trainings or clearances.

Weekend and Holiday work is required.

Decision Making:

Determine and address safety concerns within the park, answer questions from the public regarding park features and activities, notify DCNR Park Ranger and Park Manager of illegal or suspicious activities in the park.
