Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

The purpose of this position is to support the Division of Teacher Certification by reviewing applications, issuing certifications, responding to educator inquiries and staffing the call center.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Review and evaluate qualifications for various types of certification applications to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies. This includes evaluating test scores, coursework, professional experience, and the recommendation for certification from PA colleges and universities.

Approve certification applications and authorize the issuance of the appropriate certification using the Teacher Information Management System. When necessary, contact the applicant regarding missing information that is required for certification.

Track assigned/pending applications in the Teacher Information Management System and correspond with colleges/universities or school districts through the message system.

Work with the appropriate specialist or supervisor in order to review problem cases and reassess the application for clarification. Process the application when a final decision has been reached.

Access the Bureau knowledge base and standard operating procedures in order to correctly apply relevant laws, regulations and policies regarding teacher certification.

Staff the Certification Call Center in order to answer all incoming phone calls and serve as the first point of contact for the Division. Answer general certification questions and when necessary transfer to the appropriate specialist, bureau personnel or other agencies.

Assist educators in navigating PDE’s website and the Teacher Information Management System.

Report any issues with the website and/or TIMS to the appropriate staff and assist in researching and resolving issues.

Use “Remedy” to respond to inquiries from the education community on a daily basis.

Meet with walk-in visitors who are requesting information and/or evaluation of credentials.

Other related duties as defined by the Division Chief.

Determine what cases need to be reviewed in conjunction with a specialist or supervisor.

Determine which calls need to be transferred to a specialist, bureau personnel or other agencies.

Determine the best answer and the best method to communicate with the education community.

Determine which certification issues need to be reported to management and which issues can be researched and resolved independently.
