Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This position is responsible for assessing and facilitating the psychological component of the rehabilitation and social development of court committed adjudicated delinquent residents in the Youth Development Center/Youth Forestry Camp (YDC/YFC) system as well as providing sex offense specific and alcohol and other drug treatment services for residents depending upon assessed need. This position will aid in the overall delivery of treatment services that is designed to address both criminal and addictive behaviors. In addition, this position provides consultation to supervisory and counseling staff and serves as a key member of the clinical team in accordance with the Department of Human Services (DHS), Bureau of Juvenile Justice, and agency policies. A Psychological Services Associate-Mental Health demonstrates a high degree of skill and knowledge in the field of counseling/psychotherapy. This position reports directly to the designated SMSTU Manager. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Prepares written clinical evaluations on each resident in assigned areas from information obtained by conducting a file review, clinical interview, consulting with program staff and administering the recommended specialized assessment protocol. Coordinates mental health services via as defined by the SMSTU policy, serving as a consultant to supervisory/counseling staff, making recommendations for special programming, assisting in treatment plan development and monitoring in order to provide individualized clinical treatment services. Performs tasks in the care, counseling and treatment of residents who have sex offense issues and/or issues with substance abuse/dependency and have been committed to SMSTU for diagnosis and treatment. Provides educational programs on sex offense, mental health and/or substance abuse/dependency to residents, families and employees. Provide educational programs’ regarding community supports, i.e. 12 Step programs, to residents, families and employees. Serve as a liaison to community based drug and alcohol treatment programs and will assist residents in utilizing these resources. Provides direct services to students by participating in individual and group counseling/therapy as required (minimum of 30% of work week), attends court or mental health hearings and completes psychological assessment/reports. Provides training to direct care service staff by providing consultation on individual cases and attending clinical staff meetings. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, resident progress reviews, and treatment planning conferences to ensure quality of care. Participates in professional training by attending in-service and out-service training, reviews professional literature, approved alcohol and other drug abuse specific in-service and out-service training, reviews professional literature, and participates in research, as required, in order to maintain constant professional growth and development. Participates in program development meetings with contracted clinical consultants. Assist with aftercare planning and referrals to community agencies/supports. Applies the principles of Balanced and Restorative Justice (BARJ) in work situations as required. Adhere to all federal, state and agency regulations, policies and procedures governing confidentiality (HIPAA). Ensures compliance with Act 126 legislature. Attend and participate in staff meetings, supervisory conferences and employee training programs, including Suicide Intervention/Prevention, Safe Crisis Management, CPR/AED/First Aid, and Cultural Diversity in order to develop and maintain job skills. Work overtime as required by operational necessities and emergencies. Must be able to work mandatory overtime in compliance with overtime provisions of the collective bargaining agreement, with little or no advance notice, whether on or off duty at the time of notification. Adheres to ethical principles and standards as defined by the American Psychological Association. Performs related duties as required. |

Determines level and type of alcohol and other drug treatment a resident will receive in conjunction with treatment team. Determines the type of sex offense specific treatment a resident will receive in conjuction with the treatment team. |
