Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Within the DGS Annex Complex, performs general cleaning of offices, restrooms, and other public areas. Employee is responsible for maintaining an assigned area in a clean and orderly condition.

ESSENTIAL EMPLOYEE – REQUIRED TO REPORT TO WORK DURING EMERGENCIES AND
OFFICE CLOSINGS

Performs everyday floor care assignments, such as light washing and spray buffing; in addition, performs non-routine floor care that includes sealing, refinishing, stripping, burnishing, shampooing, extracting, etc. Equipment utilized includes, but is not limited to, heavy-duty commercial floor finishers, scrubbing machines, buffers, extractors, and automatic shampooers.

Dusts, mops, and removes spots and spills from office floors, hallways, stairways, elevators, and public areas. May be required to use an extractor to clean-up large amounts of water. Vacuums all carpeted areas.

Sweeps and mops restroom floors, washes and cleans all restroom furnishings to include mirrors, toilets, urinals, partitions, walls, sinks, etc. Ensures that adequate amounts of restroom supplies are available for use and replenishes as needed. Reports any discrepancies, such as burnt-out or blinking light bulbs, plumbing leaks, clogged drains, etc., to the immediate supervisor.

Cleans and dusts office furnishings, office equipment, file cabinets, etc. Polishes furniture items, such as chairs, desks, conference tables, bookshelves, etc.

Gathers and places trash/recycling materials in the appropriate containers and transports to a designated pick-up point.

Dusts and cleans windows, windowsills, blinds, and the outside of radiant units. Washes baseboards, walls, partitions, doors, and door grillwork.

Cleans and polishes brass fixtures throughout the Complex.

Selects and makes proper use of a variety of cleaning agents and equipment including furniture polish, ammonia, detergents, vacuum cleaners, push sweepers, etc. Responsible for the proper care of equipment: performs preventative maintenance, minor repairs such as tightening bolts, nuts, replacing vacuum cleaner belts, etc. Reports major equipment repair and supply requirements to supervisor.

Sweeps and cleans the outside building entrances and sidewalks of any debris, plus empties ashtrays and trash containers.

May possibly be required to move furniture, equipment, and supplies from one area to another, and to operate a pallet jack or dolly in order to do so.

Reports the presence of any unauthorized personnel in the buildings to the supervisor. Ensures that all lighting is off and doors locked before departure from unoccupied offices. Before the end of the shift, returns all office keys to supervisor.

Shovels snow and removes ice from building entrances, exits, sidewalks, driveways, stairways, etc. Spreads deicing materials where needed.

Performs other related duties as needed.
