Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position is assigned to the Nursing Services Department as a Unit Clerk and reports directly to the Nurse Manager 1, ensuring adherence to HIPAA standards.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Collect, sort, process and distribute mail and newspapers to appropriate units and residents.

Request supplies, equipment, and furniture via electronic purchase requisitions/shopping carts as requested by the Nursing Department and other departments as needed. Maintain unit inventory of equipment and supplies at established par levels.

Assemble and provide to nursing staff Admission Packets, Transfer Packets, Death packets and Employee Accident Report Packets, or other documents as required.

Purge resident medical records according to established policy and procedures. Copy Nursing staff schedules and send to appropriate departments. Posts schedules on nursing units.

Make arm bands for each resident on a regular basis to ensure residents have an arm band on at all times.

Answer telephone calls, receives and routes messages. Make copies, type documents, and send and deliver faxes as needed.

Order, stock, and distribute all forms used on nursing units and keep abreast of all new forms implemented by Nursing and other departments.

Separate and distribute leave slips and posts employees' leave slips and schedules to time books.

Obtain, copy, and print Physicians Orders and reorders of pharmaceuticals.

Provides residents’ external appointment schedules to transportation staff. Reschedules appointments as needed.

Make arrangements for resident telephone and cable services as requested.

Assume duties of other unit clerks or the switchboard operator/receptionist when needed.

Monitor and schedule routine preventative maintenance for the Nursing Department’s medical and office equipment.

Attend scheduled training as required.

Performs work in accordance with the DMVA general safety rules and safety rules for this position. Immediately reports all workplace injuries or incidents to the supervisor; and/or immediately corrects any safety hazards in the work area or reports same to supervisor.

Perform other related duties as required.
