Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This position is responsible for performing semi-skilled and skilled work in several trades at agencies within the youth development center/youth forestry camp (YDC/YFC) system. Provides for the daily upkeep and long-term maintenance of the buildings and grounds in accordance with the Department of Human Services, Office of Children, Youth and Families, Bureau of Juvenile Justice Services and agency policies. This position reports directly to the Facility Operations Supervisor. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Performs duties by utilizing skills in the carpentry, plumbing, heating and cooling, painting, masonry and electrical trades as assigned. Repair and install doors, door frames, furniture, paneling and windows. Fabricate and install partitions, hang dry wall and build forms. Install or repair roofs, flashing and gutters. Install and maintain plumbing fixtures, steam lines for heating, steam traps and radiator valves; and measure, cut, thread and install pipe for water and steam lines. Maintain heating and cooling systems. Paint interiors and exteriors of buildings. Perform masonry work in connection with buildings, foundations, walks and walls. Install and maintain electrical circuits, wall receptacles, light fixtures, main panels and breakers. Install, maintain and repair cooking, refrigeration and laundry equipment. Weld and braze metals by use of arc and acetylene welders and erect steel for construction. Perform lawn care and snow removal and operate and maintain the equipment. Maintain and repair security fencing as needed. Function as a lead worker over semi-skilled workers as assigned. Operate and maintain the tools and equipment utilized in the trades involved. Maintain strict accountability of tools, equipment and materials to ensure the safety and security of employees and residents. Report any missing tools to the Security Department and the Facility Maintenance Manager immediately. Drive vehicles to various facilities and local vendors for pick-up and delivery of parts, materials and equipment as assigned. Clean dirt and debris created in the course of assigned duties and assist in maintaining work area in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition. Travel and perform work at various agencies within the YDC/YFC system as assigned. Adhere to all federal, state and agency regulations, policies and procedures governing confidentiality. Apply the principles of Balanced and Restorative Justice (BARJ) and consider these principles during work situations as required. Attend and participate in staff meetings, supervisory conferences and employee training programs, including but not limited to CPR/First Aid, Fire Safety and Cultural Diversity in order to develop and maintain position skills. Work overtime as required by operational necessities and emergencies. Must be able to work mandatory overtime in compliance with overtime provisions of the collective bargaining agreement, with little or no advance notice, whether on or off duty at the time of notification. No more than one incident may occur where an employee fails to immediately report an occurrence of "Work Related Injury" to immediate supervisor or next line of authority. Must attend asbestos awareness training. Perform related duties as required. |
