Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This professional public relations position will provide support to the PSP Communications Office staff and serves as a liaison between the Department and the public, media, governor's office, and other state agencies. This person oversees the Department publication of the Communicator by drafting and editing content while also maintaining and updating the retired personnel email database. This person will assist the Communication Directors, Community Service Officers, and Public Information Officer(s) with media and public relations activities to further public understanding of the programs, products and services of the PA State Police.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

50% Edits copy submitted for the Communicator, Department correspondence, press releases, media alerts, and other publications for style, grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and punctuation. Designs the layout for the Communicator and publishes the newsletter; compiles daily press briefings when needed; assists in the planning and scheduling of media events.

40% Provides support to the Communications Director, Director of the Communications Office and the Press, including constructing news releases, planning media events, assisting with Department social media, responding to media inquiries, and planning press events. Interacts directly with Executive and Administrative Office members of the Department, ensuring all interactions remain confidential where indicated.

5% Monitors Department social media in addition to external and internal websites, to include the Department’s public website.

5% Performs other related duties and attends training as required.
