Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Conducts unannounced inspections at amusement parks, carnivals, fairs and other amusement ride operations, ensuring the credibility of inspections done by certified, owner employed inspectors. Conducts amusement ride safety quality assurance inspections in accordance with ASTM Standards. This includes the inspection of location and installation, structure integrity, tub and vehicle integrity, electrical safety, and the safe and proper operation of rides Reviews on-sight required documentation including inspection affidavits, itineraries, and insurance policies. Documentation must list event(s), sponsor information, time and date of event(s), and equipment being used. Amusement Ride Inspection Reports will be completed for each company and ride. Specific inaccuracies will be listed on the report and owners will be provided time to comply. If the inaccuracies are not met by the required deadline then a fine will issued or if need be the place of operation will be shut down. Interprets and explains rules, regulations, policies and procedures for industry personnel and the public. Communicates with industry personnel to review non-compliance and explain corrective action. Investigates accidents/incidents to determine cause and prepares detailed report. Research the condition, operation, and certified inspection of amusement rides and prepares reports Appears at Department hearings and legal proceedings as directed, to provide testimony. Prepares written reports of inspections and findings to be mailed to the Harrisburg office within 48 hours of inspection. May be required to work extended hours or stay overnight depending upon job circumstances. Assist Amusement Ride Safety Chief with retail firework site inspections. Additional Essential Functions: 11. Work in dusty environments or in the vicinity of vapor with appropriate safety gear 12. Stoop, walk on uneven ground, bend and stand or sit for extended periods of time 13. Climb ladders and steps 14. Drive a vehicle for prolonged periods in potentially adverse weather conditions 15. Operate a motor vehicle with a trailer 16. Overtime and travel as necessary 17. Maintain professionalism at all times |
Decision Making: Describe the types of decisions made by the incumbent of this position and the types of decisions referred to others. Identify the problems or issues that can be resolved at the level of this position, versus those that must be referred to the supervisor. Example: In response to a customer inquiry, this work involves researching the status of an activity and preparing a formal response for the supervisor’s signature. The incumbent independently selects an appropriate number and type of amusement rides and attractions to represent an accurate Quality Assurance sampling of inspections. Determines a reasonable period, mutually agreeable with the ride owner, for compliance on issues that are not immediate hazards. Safety Inspector will recommend that a ride should be shut down. Inspector will notify Supervisor and Supervisor will provide approval/disapproval. |
