Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position ensures the all needs are met within designated housing unit(s) at the Department of Corrections (DOC) State Correctional Institutional (SCI)Somerset.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

20% Interviews inmates to facilitate their institutional adjustment, assists with issues that are inherent in a correctional setting, and/or provide encouragement. Provides consultation and assistance in resolving personal and family problems, conflict resolution, and dealing appropriately with other concerns that may be encountered within the institution as well as in the community. Provides referrals and guidance for inmates to develop social, educational, and vocational skills that are necessary to make a positive re-entry into the community. Provides assistance in obtaining information regarding employment opportunities, procedures for job applications and retention, and availability of community resources.

20% Develops, maintains, and presents necessary records and reports for managing an inmate caseload. Fosters positive relationships between the institution, other departments, and community agencies by providing necessary information for effective case management and community reintegration. Confers with other staff about an inmate's adjustment, including work supervisor, treatment staff and other Unit Team members. Communicates with families, outside agencies, and DOC employees concerning all aspects of the inmate's incarceration.

20% Analyzes aptitude and interest tests, compiles socio-demographic histories, and develops case records which include initial medical, psychological, and psychiatric evaluations, test and measurements, and final clinical evaluation. Utilizes assessment scores to determine recommended programming and risk level, compiles documents to include socio-demographic histories, and maintains documentation regarding sentencing, psychological evaluations, assessment scores, correctional planning, and re-entry.

20% Utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach to coordinate treatment objectives to include: programming, activities, counseling, and educational services in a manner that supports effective utilization of personnel and material resources. Facilitates compliance and behavioral change through the implementation of Prescriptive Program Plans inclusive to expectations regarding work and housing, overall behavior, academic and vocational programming, and recommended programming based on need and assessments. Attends inmate staffing with the Unit Team for job changes, program/custody level changes, parole recommendations, informal misconduct resolutions, etc.

15% Participates in parole planning and makes recommendations regarding re-entry services and Community Corrections Center placement. Secures forms of identification and assists with community reintegration. Writes parole reports and recommendations on inmates prior to their interview by the Pennsylvania Parole Board (PPB).

5% Performs other related duties as assigned.

12. Hear and identify sounds (voices, whistle, buzzer, lock release, scuffling, sudden quiet)

This position independently manages an inmate caseload. Work is assigned and reviewed by the supervisor through regular meetings to ensure timeliness and accuracy. This position may seek guidance from members of various teams including psychological and medical staff.
