Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

The employee in this position supervises a shift of firefighters providing firefighting protection and support at the 193rd Special Operation Wing, PA Air National Guard.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Supervise fighting and extinguishing fires of highly volatile aircraft fuels and chemicals, associated weaponry, other types of aerospace vehicles, fuel and propellant storage areas, hanger and other facilities directly related to the operation of aircraft. Perform rescue of personnel in aircraft accidents/incidents.

Responsible for proper location, placement and operation of all the fire apparatus, fire equipment and assigned crew members during fires, emergencies and drills.

Direct crew members in firefighting activities working from specific orders from higher-level federal employee at the scene.

Required to make decisions on administrative matters of non-policy nature and to control emergency scene.

Make specific work assignments directing day-to-day operations of firefighting crew including care and maintenance of equipment and facilities. Assign subordinate employees to work other than actual firefighting duties. Plan work schedules and sequence of operations on a regular basis to ensure even flow and distribution of work and meeting of schedules and deadlines. Provide new employees with experience and training required performing the work. Follow through with plans and work to ensure proper completion of the task. Assign apparatus and provide assistance to the crew in work being performed. Maintain a station log during hours entering all section activities. Keep crew in standby condition at all times maintaining discipline and efficiency.

Assign firefighters to perform facility safety inspections and activities. Review work for proper inspections and activities and for proper completion. Assist in all elimination of any hazards found and reported.

Maintain knowledge of first aid, rescue tools, firefighting apparatus, and features of particular aircraft. Maintain various types of equipment used in firefighting.

Participate as a member of the standardization committee to develop plans, procedures and standards of the Crash Rescue Fire Department.

Notify off-post-volunteer Fire Companies if mutual aid is required or about emergencies in their respective districts. Assist in safety inspections and extinguisher inspection of buildings, POL storage facilities and aircraft parking areas.

Act as Fire Department Safety Officer by overseeing activities on the fire ground and at emergency scenes to ensure safe operations.

**Maintain relevant firefighting training certifications. These include: Driver/Operator Pumper, Driver/Operator Aircraft Rescue Firefighter (ARFF), Driver/Operator Mobile Water Supply, Fire Officer III, and Hazardous Materials Incident Commander.**

**Obtain and maintain T1/Favorable Clearance for access to restricted areas and federal network access.**

As a supervisor, perform duties such as planning, assigning, and evaluating work; determining work priorities; interviewing and selecting employees; evaluating employee performance; approving or disapproving leave requests; initiating disciplinary actions; determining subordinate training needs; coaching and counseling employees; and resolving problems and disagreements.

Perform work in accordance with the DMVA general safety rules and safety rules for this position. Immediately report all workplace injuries or incidents to the supervisor, and/or immediately correct any safety hazards in the work area or report same to the supervisor.

Perform other related duties as required.

Essential Functions
