Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Provides technical assistance in the field for the Ecological Services Section. Conducts surveys and assists in treatment and monitoring of invasive plants. Assists in performing plant and wildlife habitat enhancement and management projects. Carries out stewardship tasks within Wild Plant Sanctuaries and High Conservation Value Areas (HCVAs). Assists staff in executing work tasks within plant recovery plans, wildlife species habitat management plans, aquatic management plans or climate change action plans. Collects field data in electronic format, prepares written reports as required.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

-Assists in the control of invasive plant species on state forest lands; surveys, identifies and maps locations of invasive plants in the field. Treats high priority invasive populations through chemical or mechanical means.

-Assists in wildlife and plant habitat creation and management projects.

-Assists with PA Plant Conservation Alliance (PPCA) stewardship activities.

-Assists with the collection of wildlife and/or plant monitoring or inventory data.

-Enters data into databases; prepares a variety of reports and records.

-Manages field equipment for the Division of Conservation Science and Ecological Resources (CSER).

-Assists with other duties and activities as required.

-Preparation and coordination with CSER and forest district personnel to carry out invasive and/or habitat management project work.

-Ability to conduct online research for topics such as native wild plant propagation, invasive treatment options, and other plant or wildlife related questions.

-Ability to carry out prescribed treatment for invasives or perform habitat enhancement activity as directed by Section staff.

Essential Functions
: Provide a list of essential functions for this position. Example: Transports boxes weighing up to 60 pounds.
 
 1. Ability to identify invasive plants in Pennsylvania and comfort in identifying native plant species.
 2. Familiarity with Pennsylvania wildlife, ability to identify common species and be familiar with their ecological needs.
 3. Use a Microsoft computer and Apple mobile application platforms.
 4. Navigate using a map, compass, and GPS unit.
 5. Safely drive a 4-wheel drive vehicle on off-road locations.
 6. Lift equipment of varying size/shape weighing up to 50 lbs.
 7. Travel, mostly within Pennsylvania, both during work days and sometimes overnight.
 8. Be comfortable working in the forests with rough terrain and conditions.
 9. Follow all established field safety protocols and methods.
 10. Have a PA Pesticide Applicators License (or work towards obtaining one).
