This position provides care, custody, and control of reentrants assigned to a state-operated Community Corrections Center (CCC). |
Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. (60%)- Ensures safety and security of the CCC. Maintains the Daily Activity Log (DC-700-BCC). Observes reentrant behavior through one-on-one and group interactions, as well as through the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) system. Conducts and documents reentrant counts, fire drills, and scheduled/unscheduled searches of reentrants, their property, and living/common areas for contraband. Maintains and inventories reentrant prescription medication, security equipment, tools, toxic chemicals, and housekeeping supplies. Maintains the sign-in/out register for all reentrants and visitors. Controls reentrant and visitor movement within the CCC. (25%)- Conducts new reentrant orientation to the CCC which includes reviewing Department of Corrections (DOC)/CCC policies, rules, and regulations; providing information on availability of public services; making room assignments; assigning housekeeping duties; etc. Conducts reentrant destination checks via community and/or telephone contact. Administers and documents breathalyzer and urinalysis tests upon return to the CCC. Writes behavior observations, issues misconducts, and attends disciplinary hearings. Facilitates and monitors necessary changes to aide in the reentrants’ successful release back into the community. Conducts daily inspections to ensure cleanliness, safety and security of all areas. Assists with keeping the center inspection-ready as directed. (10%)- Provides information to visitors regarding CCC operations. Demonstrates sensitivity to public and/or crime victim needs, concerns, and complaints and takes appropriate action to respond. Serves as a point-of-contact for law enforcement agencies. Assists/guides new monitors in performance of duties as necessary. Attends and/or participates in legal proceedings on behalf of the Bureau of Community Corrections. (5%)- Performs other related duties. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Exercise care, custody, and control over reentrants 2. Reach, bend, stoop, pull, push, kneel, lift, climb, and grasp 3. Be mobile over all types of physical surfaces and levels 4. Spend prolonged periods of time standing, walking, or sitting 5. Work all shifts 6. Operate basic office equipment 7. Work mandatory overtime in compliance with provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, with little or no advance notice, whether on or off duty at the time of notification 8. Maintain regular and reliable attendance 9. Use and maintain various equipment and tools of the corrections profession 10. Properly wear all portions of assigned uniform 11. Effectively communicate verbally and in writing 12. Establish and maintain effective working relationships 13. Hear and identify sounds (voices, whistle, buzzer, lock release, scuffling, sudden quiet) 14. Visually observe reentrants’ activities 15. Administer emergency medical assistance to reentrants and staff 16. Provide in service and on the job training 17. Attend and participate in all mandatory training and/or testing 18. Travel as required |
