Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Provides care and treatment to individuals with a mental or physical injury or illness and/or developmental disability or the care of individuals having difficulty meeting their daily living activities at a mental health facility.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

The Licensed Practical Nurse participates in staff development presentations, mandated classes; reviews material and prepares for work assignments; documents in the patients medical record psychiatric components of nursing care legibly in correlation with the ITP performance goals; follows and applies nursing and hospital policies and procedures; utilizes crisis prevention techniques in interactions with patients; is receptive and accepting of direction in basic nursing care of patients; records and reports vital signs, symptoms, and reactions or responses to medication/treatments; accurately complies with medication administration policy and completion of physicians orders; applies therapeutic techniques to group process and ward milieu; assists patients with ADLs, skin care, room care, meal times, and other associated nursing care techniques; follows ward/shift routine and completes assignments prior to the end of shift; adapts to changes in assignments, assists co-workers; applies patient information obtained through supervisor, RN, change of shift report, direct observation, policy and procedure, to work assignments; documents legibly in a timely fashion and when needed; utilizes infection control techniques; acts as patient advocate; clarifies questions and work assignments in the clinical setting; utilizes therapeutic communication techniques with patients to accomplish work assignments and in crisis intervention; exchanges information with others clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing using clear terms and proper format per policy; communicates patient status to the Charge RN before leaving duty and at other times as appropriate; performs work under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse; seeks and accepts supervision in unfamiliar situations; recognizes problems and suggests and/or assists in developing solutions; identifies, addresses, and communicates individual patient personal care/psychiatric ADL learning needs; develops and maintains positive and constructive work and therapeutic relationships; is aware of the needs and sensitivities of others; treats others in an equitable and nondiscriminatory manner regardless of race, color, religious creed, lifestyle, disability, ancestry, national origin, affectional or sexual orientation, union membership, sex and age, or other non-work related factors; promotes a non-discriminatory environment; serves as a positive role model to patients, family, staff, and presents a positive image of the hospital at all times; adheres to established DHS time and attendance policies; remains alert at all times and executes job duties in compliance with DHS, hospital and departmental policies, procedures; uses proper equipment; follows hospital safety and security policies and procedures.
