Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

The incumbent determines eligibility for LIHEAP Benefits utilizing Department of Human Services guidelines; regulations and procedures.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

MAJOR DUTIES:
1.) Conduct interviews with LIHEAP applicants for the purpose of gathering information to determine eligibility for benefits. Interviews are completed both in person and by telephone.

2.) Reviews applications for completeness and accuracy and advises applicants of additional information needed to process the application.

3.) Obtains verification of relevant information from third parties such as employers, landlords, and heating vendors for the sole purpose of determining eligibility and benefit levels.

4.) Computes income by using either 30 day, 90 day, or a 1 year income computation to assure that clients receive the most equitable benefit based on their situation.

5.) Maintains control of pending applications in order to process them in a timely manner in accordance with program guidelines.

6.) Process requests for Crisis Benefits in accordance with program guidelines.

7.) Operates computerized equipment to inquire into benefit history to insure accuracy.

8.) Performs maintenance activities such as filing information in LIHEAP folders and purging outdated material.

9.) Applies the policy of the LIHEAP Program. Maintains updated eligibility handbook, clarifications, and memos.

10.) Represents the agency during outreach functions.

11.) Performs related duties as required.
