Position Purpose:

This position is responsible for the protection of persons and property at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Patrol grounds at intervals by car and on foot and make rounds of buildings, grounds, parking and storage areas to check for theft, trespass, and violation of fire and safety rules and regulations.

Check door locks of offices, storage, laundry, maintenance and garage areas; make sure lights are on or off as necessary and secure all buildings after hours.

Direct and control traffic and parking and enforce the rules and regulations of the facility as it pertains to motor vehicles.

Answer telephone calls and assist visitors, residents and employees by giving directions and information. Prevent unauthorized persons from loitering on grounds or entering building or storage areas.

Conduct searches of vehicles and personal property under suspicious circumstances.

Assist nursing in locating and returning missing residents. Work cooperatively with police in the investigation and search for missing residents. Assist residents during an emergency.

Conduct investigations by gathering evidence, interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects.

Call maintenance personnel for major or emergency repairs after hours or on weekends and holidays.

Respond promptly to emergency calls, performing duties and following procedures as defined in the emergency disaster handbook.

Make special mail runs to local overnight pick up stations. Deliver Resident information sheets to local hospitals on an emergency basis.

May participate in and assist with fire drills and fire and safety inspections of assigned buildings and inspect fire extinguishers.

Deliver medicine and supplies from building to building and make trips to local pharmacies for medicine when needed.

Complete daily report of activities at the end of the shift.

Monitor the camera system.

May transport Residents to and from local hospitals and doctor appointments; take deposits to the bank; conduct accurate inventories of the deceased Residents’ personal possessions; and take new resident/employee photos.

Performs work in accordance with the DMVA general safety rules and safety rules for this position. Immediately reports all workplace injuries or incidents to the supervisor; and/or immediately corrects any safety hazards in the work area or reports same to supervisor.

Support the facility QAPI efforts by attending all assigned QAPI training; following established policies and procedures in support of QAPI efforts; participate in PIP teams as assigned; sharing ideas for improvement in the organization; and supporting QAPI efforts both verbally and non-verbally, including adjusting performance and practice in accordance with QAPI initiatives and findings.

Pick up medications from afterhours Pharmacy between the hours of 4:30 PM and 8:30 AM on Monday through Friday and 24/7 on weekends and holidays.

Use personal protective equipment when required such as gloves, masks, etc.

Perform other related duties as required.

Assist with completion and review virus screening forms of all staff, residents, vendors and visitors. Notify RNS/ICP/designee of any failed screening
