Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. Ensures the maintenance, operability, and inventory control of Troop communications equipment that includes telephone, radio, and IT/other. Functions as the liaison between Troop personnel/operations and centralized technical staff for all Troop matters pertaining to telecommunications/IT. |
Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 30% Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and resolves IT hardware/software problems or assists user in obtaining higher-level technical assistance. Identifies needs relative to desktop computers, laptops, associated peripheral hardware, and software. Prepares recommendations and formal requests for the acquisition, configuration, and movement of hardware/software; coordinates installation schedules; participates in the installation, configuration, and movement of hardware/software; conducts tests and performs minor adjustments on hardware/software; and provides technical information to centralized IT staff for their resolution of higher-level problems. 15% Troubleshoots operability problems with portable/handheld and mobile (car) radios by examining the problem; identifying the likely cause; and resolving, referring to centralized technical staff, or arranging for vendor servicing. Identifies needs relative to radio equipment, systems, and networks; prepares requests for services/equipment; participates in the implementation and distribution of services/equipment; and ensures that vendors are meeting contractual requirements. Assists in setting up radio communications from a mobile command post for significant/high-profile incidents. Performs on-site inspections of the Troop’s radio towers and completes reports. 10% Troubleshoots operability problems with landline and cellular telephones by examining the problem; identifying the likely cause; and resolving, referring to centralized technical staff, or arranging for vendor servicing. Identifies telephone needs, prepares requests for services/equipment, and oversees the implementation and distribution of services/equipment. Interacts with vendors and Department technical staff relative to the acquisition of new equipment and services, the moving or changing of equipment and services, and the coordination of installation schedules. 25% Provides training/guidance to Troop personnel in the use of telecommunications/IT hardware/software. Visits stations within the Troop to perform scheduled checks/maintenance of telecommunications/IT equipment, troubleshooting of technical problems, and installation/configuration of equipment. Retrieves and makes copies of audio recordings from telecommunications equipment. Performs administrative functions relative to Troop personnel accessing JNET/CLEAN/NCIC. 15% Maintains service and inventory control records for the Troop’s telecommunications/IT equipment. 5% Performs other related duties as necessary to include those outlined in the Department’s Continuity of Government Plan when the Plan is activated. Responds to the designated alternate or secondary location when directed in response to a catastrophic incident. Requirements Profile: Possession of Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network Certification or the attainment of certification during the probationary period. |
