Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. Internship position will work closely with the environmental education staff at the Moraine State Park Complex under the supervision of the assistant park manager, in fulfillment of PA State Parks’ mission. This position will work with park management to assist and learn about development and presentation of environmental education programming, recreation, and interpretive programs, historical interpretation and working with volunteers. This position performs duties that are routinely executed seven days a week and will be routinely scheduled to work weekends and holidays as needed for park operations and to meet seasonal needs. This position will require limited travel. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Duties and Responsibilities: Works closely with park environmental education staff to provide assistance to educational institutions, civic groups, and public and private organizations in developing and implementing environmental and historical education and interpretive programs, teacher in-service workshops, curriculum development, and outdoor recreation programming. Provide assistance with resource management projects. Assist with invasive species surveys. Conduct trail work and work with volunteers and interact with the public conducting surveys and public interactions. Provide interpretative public tours of McConnells Mill Historical Gristmill. Gain and receive experience assisting with the preparation, reading and implementing lesson plans. Outdoor Recreation and Interpretation: Able to perform and contribute to biking, kayaking, hiking programs. Conduct Mill Tours at McConnells Mill State Park. Assist with public programs, outdoor recreation programs, workshops and school programs. Special events and public outreach: Work with volunteer groups, partner associations, event sponsors to assist in volunteer workdays, large event preparation and execution and public information releases. Volunteer workdays to include maintenance of the natural, historic and recreational resources of the park. Assist with historic research on park history and land use, utilizing park information, internet and local libraries and historical society resources. Work with park education staff and statewide cultural resource coordinator where appropriate to draft interpretive and management plan information. Gain experience with public speaking and working with school groups. Required to attend various training sessions as directed. |
