Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This professional position within the Pennsylvania State Historic Preservation Office (PA SHPO), a bureau of the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission (Commission), is responsible for managing a variety of activities to help achieve the goals of Pennsylvania’s statewide historic preservation plan, the PA SHPO’s Education & Training Program Strategic Plan, and PA SHPO priorities. The Education & Special Initiatives Coordinator is responsible for the management and coordination of PA SHPO’s communications, education, and special initiatives activities that engage the public and partners with the work of the PA SHPO and historic preservation. This position also works closely with PA SHPO’s divisions to improve data quality, complete annual priorities, prepare and disseminate information for the public, and historic resource recordation and documentation.



Description of Duties:

• Manages PA SHPO’s communications through the pahistoricpreservation.com blog and monthly, bi-monthly, and biannual e-newsletters, including authoring and scheduling content, coordinating with PA SHPO and guest contributors, and using WordPress and MailChimp platforms.
• Maintains and updates the PA SHPO’s mailing lists and consultants list.
• Coordinates content development and updates for PA SHPO/PHMC website.
• Collaborates with PHMC and PA SHPO staff to coordinate and update exhibits for events, conferences, workshops, and other education and outreach engagements.
• Prepares promotional, program, and project materials, including fact sheets and FAQs, about PA SHPO and PA SHPO programs for distribution to the public, elected officials, and partners.
• Prepares and coordinates the writing and publication of PA SHPO Annual Report, PA SHPO’s contributions to the PHMC Annual Report and quarterly Commission reports.
• Coordinates and manages PA SHPO’s use of Esri Quick Apps and HUB to produce content for the public, particularly StoryMaps, for a variety of topics and themes.
• Leads the PA SHPO’s Education Committee to develop and refine education, communications, and special initiatives priorities for presentation to PA SHPO leadership.
• Manages PA SHPO’s annual Community Initiative Award program, including the collection and management of PA-SHARE Success Stories.
• Assists supervisor with Pennsylvania’s preparation for and participation in National Historic Preservation Advocacy Week in March.
• Coordinates the PA SHPO’s role in the annual statewide historic preservation conference in partnership with internal and external partners.
• Assists supervisor and PA SHPO management with implementation of the statewide plan.
• Participates in ongoing professional development related to GIS, education, communications, and historic preservation trends and best practices.
• Develop education and training content and supporting materials for federal and state programs in conjunction with program staff.
• Assists with logistics and facilitation in delivering education and training programs, as requested.
• Coordinate the review and publication of program guidance and educational materials, including PA-SHARE guidance, with PA SHPO staff.
• Undertakes data clean-up in PA-SHARE as part of the office effort to improve the quality of the data in the Pennsylvania Inventory of Historic Places
• Assists PA SHPO divisions with historic resources recordation and documentation as determined by PA SHPO priorities.
• Assists in the evaluation of historic properties for National Register eligibility to support all SHPO program areas, as needed and requested.
• Performs other related duties at the direction of Education & Survey Supervisor, Preservation Support Division Manager, and the PA SHPO Director.
• Travels as required.

o • Determine appropriate deadlines and the most efficient process(es) to complete annual education, communications, special initiatives, and program support priorities.
• Organize, analyze, and synthesize data and information to prepare materials related to the work of the PA SHPO appropriate for a variety of audiences.
• Determine eligibility of historic resources in consultation with PA SHPO staff.
• Conduct site visits and participate in meetings as needed to advise and assist PA SHPO partners.
